If it's not yet on discogs (can happen for some very recent release), I usualy submit the release then use foo_discogs to tag with the info I submitted (no need to wait for the release to be approved by mods)

I think foobar 2000 is even better at it. You can have all the mp3s stored in one folder, but when you have tags like "artist", "title", "date" and "genre" (at least) filled in correctly, then you can sort, search and filter everything fast and simple by using some of many plugins like: foo_browser, foo_playlist_manager etc. Through one of the plugins you can for instance choose the genre you want, and then the year and you have all the trance tunes from 2007 filtered even from a 5000+ songs playlist.

And about the foo_discogs plugin: absolutely brilliant. Something really worth a switch from winamp to fb2k.

same here

Everything is organized by date added, and I know what I was listening to at various times in the past few years.

got a folder by month where i put every track that arent ty, those folder are more of an archive. And a main folder with higher standard, with subfolder sorted by genre. subFolder are : Deep, Chunk, melo, min, Prog, Elec, Vocal, Pumpin, Disco, and trance. I use Winamp file deleter v2.5 to manage my music folder (free winamp plugin to move file with 1 click to specified folder or delete them)

And when i search a song i just jump to file it using winamp. Other usefull plugin is the find file on disk plug in for winamp.

my temp/sort folder is now almost as big as my sorted folder :( . so i'm thousands of songs behind, and i've pretty much given up... maybe until music fingerprinting and stuff like music brainz get better.

If its simply for browsing/listening, use winamp to build a library.

If you are a DJ and you want to archive/whatever, i do it like this

\*ongoing month\label or catalog number-artist-EP or album title (in no particular order

when the month is done

MUSIC\LABELS\*label*\sub-label (if necessary)\*catalog number*\artist-album or EP title
