A small (time wise) Gig

so my school wants me to play during an assembly for like a student music thing...pretty much i play as the students enter the auditorium, through out announcements, and then like 5 minutes to my self, and as they leave...so yeah. Playing in front of crowds is easy for me, only problem is, i need some ideas to make it interesting and show off my stuff with such a small time frame.

What genre do you play?

I would try to do these "mini-mixes" in the 10-minute-mix style, i.e switch songs every minute or so. You're not going to have time to play more than two tracks tops if you play out 7+ minute tracks, so try to get to the 'meat' of your songs and just play those parts.

Top40 would be an obvious answer to your task, but I feel a wider range of genres would be more impressive, even if you lose some of the crowd.

I've heard of people scratching for peprallys and things like that, but if it's not up your alley, I'd just stick with mixing the meat of your tracks and make some mashups.

electro house and tech house mainly, and yeah i was thinking fo just playing a minute max of some songs and what not.

havent heard it in a while but every sat judge jules does his radio 1 bbc show and the first ten mins has this mashup mix which is always top notch stuff... have a search and listen to those for a good idea of top 40 / dancey mashups

Mini mix sounds like a plan. I would definitely try to squeeze in at least 2 Jesus poses

Best way to do it.. premake a set in ableton and just press play and hold the pose for as long as you could like so:

so you play while they enter, and also play during the announcements? then when they leave. I would think you would play while they shuffle in, stop, then as they leave. Eitherway you are not gonna get to show show any skillz. I would just play interesting remixes of popular songs. Even if you only play a few, if they are cool enough tracks they will want to hear more of you.

i'd suggest Foo Fighters - Everlong (PQM & Vance Musgrove Remix) as they walk in. I played a party and it hooked people right away.
