Maybe this will help:

CD Polishing Equipment:

1. Car Wax (we've heard toothpaste works too, but haven't tried it)
2. Q-tips or a shammy cloth
3. Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol

Next follow these few short steps to get that CD back in working order:

1. Place a small amount of car wax (or toothpaste if you like your CDs to smell minty fresh) on the shammy cloth or Q-tip, and just like you were polishing a new Porsche with a custom paint job, gently polish out any noticeable scratches in the CD using small circular motions. You may want to practice on an old CD so you can get the feel for how much pressure you should put on the disc.

2. Allow the polish to set-in for minute after you get the scratches out, and then gently flip the shammy over, or grab a new Q-tip and gently buff the now polished surface, again giving it that new Porsche touch.

3. Optionally, if you'd like to make sure all of the car wax is gone, you can apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to the a Q-tip or cotton ball, and gently clean the CD using straight-line motion from the inside to the outside of the CD.

Although we didn't mention it above, the very best solution for cleaning your CDs would be a 1% solution of Alconox detergent, as it is non- abrasive and will leave no residue on a surface. Alconox However as Alconox is used for cleaning laboratory glassware, you may only be able to find it in a chemical supply catalog.

4. Let the CD dry for a minute, and then pop it back into your system. Provide you got the scratches out, that is all there is to it.

That's pretty much all there is to taking care of a CD. There are numerous ways to to polish a piece of plastic, and we think this one is a pretty cheap way to do it. If you find you need to polish CDs pretty often, you might want to think about getting something like the Game Genie which is made for the task, or about asking for a new little brother. Your choice."
