Linux and Producing..

I know this has been discussed in the past here. I've been using linux for 3/4 years now, and I haven't been using windows for about 6 months or so.

I'd really like to start producing on my linux machine -- does anyone have any experience with this? I saw a bit of progress on the amount of apps designed for this a while ago, but the only one i've tried is rosegarden so far (and it only took me like 6 months to set up!).

Is there anyone that uses unix for serious producing?

Its not just "considered" UNIX, it is definitely UNIX. The Mac OS X Operating system is based in the NextStep operating system which was derived from BSD UNIX.

I stand corrected (OSX is fully posix compatible).

I'd like to get back on topic here. Anyone with experience with linux/solaris/bsd (and maybe even hurd) and music producing?

Unfortunately, I think you're right. I'm a bit of a Linux advocate in most cases, but when it comes to producing, I couldn't find any Linux software that wasnt incredibly crap. Although you can get EnergyXT for Linux now, which isn't bad, though its not 'free'.
