The fact that this guy is describing this stunt as an art project infuriates me. Quite frankly that is the worst use of the word art I've heard in a while. |
Didn't the few guys in Toronto who skinned a cat alive five years ago also claimed they were doing it for an art project or something of the sort? A recollection of those words in association with that incident comes my to mind....
There is a lot of CRAP (a huge understatement in some cases) mistakenly being considered as "art" these days. |

ing dumbass OCAD students...

Inspired by Marcel Duchamp's readymades pieces (the most famous of which is the urinal-cum-art-piece Fountain), Jonsson wanted to make a piece for his final project about recontextualization: the idea that the context changes the meaning of a piece of art; in this case, something that is "quite clearly not dangerous, but when you put it in a different context the viewer recontextualizes it": a fake pipe bomb, and fake YouTube videos showing its fake explosion.
|
And I gotta say, as an art student, that is the most lame and over done concept for an art project...
"putting an object out of context causes it to be interpreted differently."
wow, great idea! welcome to first-year art history.
It's because of idiots like this guy that the visual arts get zero credibility and respect. |

Naw, that was just promo for ATHF (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) gone wrong in a society that's constantly bombarded with the threat of terrorism... as opposed to a guy building a pipe-bomb replica.
Major lol @ putting a sign on it saying it isn't a bomb - yea, that's reassuring. The whole AIDS thing makes it even worse.. definitely a PR headache for OCAD. |
