Why do images look different on certain comps/monitors?

For some reason, images appear darker on my screen (eventhough i have it on the brightest)
than on other screens ( like @ a friends).
When making a sig, the picture looks perfect, on my computer.
But when i veiw it elsewhere, it looks brighter and a bit dull...
Anybody know why???
Any solutions...?
Here's another thing, when browsing the forums on my computer, the whole backround is black. While when browsing elsewhere, the posts are seperated by 2 different shades of black. And even the 'quotes'
have their own seperate box/outline, while i don't see that on mine..

its just the differnce in quality of the monitors
i myself have a professional series flat screen monitor...its huge ^_^
something could look perfect on it...where as my friend has a crappy $150 monitor and everything looks bland and not rich
also how you set the brightness/contrast/hue will be a determining factor in picture quality :) |

Well, obvioulsy a crappy monitor won't be good, but i'm sure there's a problem with the settings or something...
also, arn't the monitor settings supposed to be preconfiguered? |

| there isn't much u can do about it, as dj liquid said...different monitors use different hardware, so there's bound to be differences in picture quality |

The phenomenon you're experiencing is called gamma-misalignment. It refers to a constant "gamma" in a equation that describes the relationship between the incoming analog power signal to the monitor and the amount of voltage the electron beam in the monitor is using when displaying the images. If this relationship differs from that of the monitor used for testing your graphics adaptor (most likely), you'll have to adjust the output from your graphics adaptor.
This can be done on most graphics adaptors through the accompanying settings program - usually under some andvanced heading or something. Alternatively you might be able to find some program on the net for doing it. "AdobeGamma" is a part of Photoshop too as far as I remember. |

yeah, sounds like a gamma adjustment should fix the problem
if u have a recent video card...should have desktop software that lets you adjust gamma settings
otherwise, like trancaholic says, there are programs that can do it too.
images are appearing brighter on other monitors, because "normal" to you, is infact dark (or so it would seem)...so when converted to a standard "normal" monitor it will be too bright.
(hope that made sense) :):):)

| maybe at some point you let a program auto adjust your brightness also.. some games/programs do that |

Have you checked your monitor's and graphic card's drivers?
the solution miht be there,if not try to download programs such as PowerToys and others(get on Google and type any word you think might help you out)...
You can also try to get in touch with your monitor's manufacturer via e-mail or telephone and ask them about your prob..or you can go to the company's site and get in the troubleshooting page and look it up there!
Best of luck to you! |
