At least those that aren't into the music it plays (for now) aren't going and then bitching about it. But in other ways it's worse b/c they're just bitching nonetheless. Meh.:whip: |

They close early because they are on probation, didn't you read the thread?!!
As for the Rauhofer part, | quote: | | I think that's bull. Supposing that it is more draining on you to play well versus playing mediocre, which is arguable in the first place. It's not like he's moving bricks around - to professional DJs, putting on a set should be pretty much second nature; and should not be excused anyway - there are other professions that require you to put in 100% every time. Mainly though, I think it's reflects badly on his character if he willfully didn't try to put on a good set because he was saving himself for New York. If he wanted to save his energy for New York, he shouldn't have booked the Toronto gig in the first place. There's no reason the people in Toronto should get less for their money than the people in New York when they paid to go see him. Leaves a bad impression on him if he's willing to disappoint his fans in order to get more moolah. Finally, it looks bad on you if you're making up "valid" excuses on his behalf - he's not a god, why do you feel you need to make up excuses for his poor performance? |
How does it look bad on me for me making "valid" excuses on his behalf? I am theorizing that he was probably saving his energy for New York and it is only a theory? I would like to know how that makes me look bad.
It could have been also the fact that he hadn't played Toronto in almost 18 months so he didn't know how the crowd would be. Or the fact that he was booked at a Friday party and couldn't really play any encores because he had a flight to catch and he didn't want to disappoint by ripping it up if he had to leave at exactly 8am. Or maybe it was the fact he was playing a lot of promos, unleashing them to an audience to see if they work (DJs do that you know). Maybe a lot of his stuff didn't work and that's that.
What an odd, odd, point you made about making "valid excuses" when it was a theory rather than an excuse....

I've been three times, and I've had a blast all three times.
However, i was there on Friday night for Randomland, and have yet to go on a Saturday.
My girlfriend didn't have so much of a good time the first time she came with, and wasn't comfortable with the snobby attitude she felt she was getting. however, i had my really cool T-Qualizer that had people coming from across the room to comment on my shirt, so I was enjoying the attention.
The decor is awesome, and is unlike any club I've been too. Only things I've seen on TV and in movies. Lots to interact with. The DJs for the most part on Friday night were pretty bad. Being a techno and trance DJ for seven years has given me an ear for proper mixing, and there wasn't much of it going on outside the main room. At first i took this as a real negative part of the vibe. But then, I thought. I used to have a blast on Friday nights dancing to a bunch of dancey rock tunes "mixed" by DJ Dwight @ the Phoenix on Saturdays. Why can't I now. There were a lot of good tunes played, even if they weren't layered for two minutes and were crossfaded over.
The hype about it has died down a bit, and they are experiencing a bit of a decline in attendance. Although, there has been a few really big nights. They are starting to work with 19+ promoters in this city, giving them rooms to bring their crews out the the night. That may keep things going well for a while.
The drinks are probably the most expensive in clubland. That's my only real complaint about the place. |

There's better ways to be elitists/music snobs than to deprive yourself of new/different experiences. And I don't really see how being narrow minded makes you superior to ANYone.
