The edit were all done in Ableton. At one point when I had my laptop I would rewire it using two CDJ’s while playing. Currently I don’t have my PowerBook because it was stolen so the edits are done prior to playing with CDJ’s. I also used a looper on the mix as well.
So basically it’s a culmination of the edits, tracks and the looper. During some points of the mix you will here three different samples or pieces of tracks playing on top of each other. So fittng 19 tracks with all that going down things can get loose here and there.
I will have to check out the sample when I get off work since I don’t have speakers. Thanks for the taking a listen for sure, I greatly appreciate the feedback. |

| yes yes, wonderful, and it would be awesome if you do those edits live..have them all pre-arranged in ableton etc.... that would make a set that much more creative/original..... but maybe you already do that :D |

Well I just finished listening to this for the third time in as many days, and I guess my opinion on it has probably changed pretty dramatically since the first run through. On my first listen, there were definitely sections where I just felt like it got too busy and maybe I lost the idea you were going for, but the more I listen to it, the more I see how well all the tracks that are very much "in the mix" work together.
While it may be true that this isn't technically your most precise effort, there is absolutely no point in the mix where the minor glitches mess with the flow of the set - and the way you worked "Equestrian Muppet Idol" in was just outstanding. I'm loving that track but having a hard time playing it myself because of the key change in the intro, it's nice to hear it work so well.
That being said, my favorite part of the set is definitely the end - from EMI through the end is outstanding, but I especially like the way you worked the Nathan Fake tune in. I did enjoy the Stickroth stuff towards the beginning, but for the most part this one really seems to come alive at the end.
Well done bro :) |

Finally took a listen to the sample. I actually really like the the first 20 seconds or so it. I like the laid back bass line and some of the clicks/hats. I really cant get down to it at all though once the synths come in. Not really my bag personally but the real early stuff is cool. I like the use of side chain it seems in some of the elements.

Thanks for the review Rob. Yeah I need to make a set for everyone that consists of material in the last 30 minutes but a whole cd. The first half is more for home listening, after party stuff and the last part is more of the club stuff I would lay down depending on the night.
As far as the technical side of things I wanted to make sure I recorded it live and not on Ableton. Just like my last three promos were recorded live so is this one. When using a looper, fitting 19 tracks on a cd and layering at least three tracks on top of each other at some points I found it virtually impossible to make it perfect.
Thanks for taking the time to check it out and posting a review duder. I have a feeling a new mix will be coming out sooner then I usually do to showcase the more upbeat stuff I do. |
