The future of gatecrasher:

Here is the official announcement they've just put up on the site:

-------------------------------------------------------------------
DATELINE: FROM MAY 25 GATECRASHER BECOMES MONTHLY. THE BIGGEST DJS WILL HOST EXCLUSIVE PARTIES AT THE END OF EACH MONTH COMMENCING 29 JUNE.

PREPARE FOR SONIC HEAVEN - EXPECT NEW EXPERIENCE - THEME NIGHTS - SONIC COLLABORATIONS - DIGITAL TRANSMISSIONS & MUCH MORE.

GATECRASHER, THE CLUB THAT HAS NEVER BEEN AFRAID OF CHANGE, IS TAKING A MASSIVE STEP INTO THE FUTURE AND YET AGAIN LEADING THE WAY IN CLUBLAND BY GOING MONTHLY.
THE LION’S FIRST HOME, THE REPUBLIC IN SHEFFIELD WILL HOLD JUST ONE SPECIAL GATECRASHER A MONTH, AS THE CLUB TRULY GOES GLOBAL. GATECRASHER IN LONDON, LAUNCHED ON APRIL 26TH WITH PAUL VAN DYK, IS THE FIRST STEP TO BRANCHING OUT TO HOLDING WEEKLY NIGHTS ACROSS EUROPE.

GATECRASHER MD SIMON RAINE EXPLAINS:
“IT’S LIKE THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES, EVERYONE’S THINKING IT BUT NO ONE WANTS TO SAY IT – OUR INDUSTRY IS NOW GEARED TOWARDS LARGE EVENTS AND WEEKLY CLUB NIGHTS HAVE HAD THEIR CHIPS."
“I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT ALL CLUBS ARE UNDER-PERFORMING AT THE MOMENT, IT’S GETTING HARDER TO BOOK BIG DJS BECAUSE OF THEIR INTERNATIONAL COMMITMENTS, AND CLUBBERS ARE MORE INTERESTED IN GOING TO BIG EVENTS. WHICH IS WHY WE’VE DECIDED TO CONCENTRATE ON PUTTING ON ONE AWESOME PRODUCTION AT THE REPUBLIC EACH MONTH, WHILE PUTTING THE SAME CARE AND ATTENTION TO OUR NIGHTS IN LONDON, EUROPE AND THE WORLD AND ALSO OUR HUGELY SUCCESSFUL EVENTS IN THE UK.”

GATECRASHER IN SHEFFIELD WILL BE OPEN EVERY WEEK UNTIL THE GRAND FINALE ON JUNE 1ST, AND WILL THEN HOLD ITS FIRST MONTHLY EVENT ON JUNE 29TH.
GATECRASHER LONDON LAUNCHES ON APRIL 26TH, WITH THE NEXT PARTY ON MAY 31ST. LOOK OUT FOR NEWS OF GATECRASHER IN EUROPE COMING SOON.

Damn. Well i can understand that big events r good, but there is still room for the weekly. And to bw honest i am sure they could get about 15000 people once a month if it was held in london. But it wouldnt have the atmosphere, and there would be less people who really apreciate the music, somethign you have at the republic. I think this is a real shame :(

1) The week after the SSS is a silly time to hold the 1st GC monthly, cos everyone will have spent their money, hope I can afford to go.

2) Looks like they're are still having a GC on June 1, well that's what the thing suggests neway.

3) What do they expect the GC faithful to do 3 weeks a month.

4) By doing this they're destroying a culture.

this is indeed an end of an era..because you put a club monthly..you take out all the communities that have blossomed over the past 4+ years!:(

also you place instead a club that is geared sorely towards making the biggest amount of cash possible..by ramming it full to the brim and possibly charging extra for the privilage.

i think its a very bad idea..and i'm usually optomistic..but this idea is ludicrus..the club has not "had its chips"!!..they have been swopping and changing things of late..but by far the most stoopidest idea is to put one dj on each night..2 years ago there were 5-6 big named dj's each week..and they wonder now why numbers are dropping with just jules/armin/hardwick????...

..i mean..theres nothing wrong with these dj's..and everyone has their own taste..but it makes sence for a little variety in each night..if jules and armin played for eg..instead of just jules..then more peeps would go..becasue theirs more choice!..

i say the more dj's on in a night..the more peeps would be interested..plus they wonder why the numbers have dropped when they base the sales figures after red n black or before/after the NEC??

the reason they say big named events are the way forward..is because these are the only nights these days that show such variety in a night!..you put these line ups back in crasher..then hey presto..you have a thriving club scene again!..its not like they didn't do it before..i just think theyr bored!

R.I.P gatecrasher:( :(

I think Crasher are leaving their loyal fans up creek without a paddle here.

What will Republic do 3 saturday's a month now. Will they keep the trance and keep it till 6 weekly?

This is really news. I could be going to Uni in Sheffield in September. What a ing time to make an announcement like this.

I feel very sorry for the hardcore crasher fans that go week in week out, I feel they've been on from a great height, I've only gone to big events like the GCSSS and NEC, but I see a lot of the others on this forum go all the time, true fans, true clubbers, and I think its highly unfair on them :( , Its like their trying to be Pacha setting up a southern Gatecrasher, next they'll try and set up in other countries, the Republic is the Lions dens they should keep it there full stop weekly. I hope they just notice that they've made the biggest mistake ever, and that they bring it back as a weekly event, because monthly will mean tickets will be like goldust, plus no will see as many Djs as they did before its a shame :( .

What they don't realise is they're completly wrong saying that big events are the way forward, if anything it's exactly the opposite. People are moving more towards smaller, intimate clubs with a good crowd of regulars. I think that's where Gatecrasher managed to be so unique, they managed to combine the lineups of a superclub but still managed to keep that intimate atmosphere you don't see anywhere else except in much smaller clubs.

This is definetly a bad idea and unless there's something else they've yet to announce (which wouldn't surprise me) I can't see the Gatecrasher brand lasting much longer if they carry on like this, because what's held Gatecrasher together all these years is the loyalty of their regulars. Well they've shown now that they don't give a about those people, and in a few months time they'll have found a home elsewhere and Crasher will find themselves with no customers.

When I was living back down south I went to slinky every weekk, it was usually packed. If I lived closer to sheffield or it was more easily accessible I would go by car. I am sure there was a point I was gonna make, just cannot remember it at the mo.

To be continued...........

jason, u just hit the proverbial nail on its proverbially stupid head.

ive voiced my opinion on this so much know im getting bored of the subject...

evil_bastard: tidy trax will be holding a monthly night @ the republic once GC goes monthly... no idea what they'll be doing the other 2 weeks... knowing gatecrasher, they have something up their sleeve for those weeks thats not 'strictly' gatecrasher... as in blessed on a saturday until 6 or sumthin... in which case i dont care coz matt hardwick is the main resident for blessed nights too!
