If your on a budget or even have some dough why the hell would anyone these days buy something new? I had a friend who went out and dropped 30k on a new 2008 car, I have no idea what the make is.

There's that saying that once you buy a new car and drive off the lot your car instantly loses half of it's value.

Little vent I had tonight

warranty, brand new car means there's no hidden problems with it.
buying new you get to customize what you want to buy with it. (order the options you want) instead of getting a colour you don't want but the options you want or vice versa.
just some off the top of my head.
i bought my car used cause it was $90,000 new and i couldn't buy the car any more cause they stopped making it. (i saved half but i didn't get the colour, interior or exterior i wanted. i wanted white on red but got gray on black.)

theres depreciation in anything purchased new, obviously- as it changes status from BRAND NEW to USED merchandise.

Roughly 30% of the value of the vehicle is lost within the first 3 years of ownership.

The most depreciation is found to be on the entry level, "value" trim vehicles. top line & fully loaded models retain their value most.

so, if you wanna get the most bang for your $..(write this down, kids- its gonna be on the test)

buy a 3 year old, fully loaded vehicle-from a dealer- and get an extended warranty that the manufacturer approves. (you can get a warranties that extend to over 120,000kms)

^^ 2 VERY GOOD and common reasons.

If you have the money, -- ITS WORTH IT.

Why not make available to yourself all the options you want -- colour, accessories, etc.

Also, though this only relevant in the case of a re-design of a model in teh curernt year, but what if you truly love a new re-designed vehicle style (the current year's), but not so much the look/features avaailable on the prior generation (last year's and before's) ???

Your only option here is to go new.

LOL... well, that hasnt been definitively proven I dont think... ?(was reading/hearing about this very recently)

But there is a lot to suggest that plasticizers (sp?) may be harmful to humans over time, yeah.

And that "new car smell" is the plasticizers that are in the plastic of the dashes, etc.

yeah you're right, we should just get brand new horses instead - I hear they don't depreciate as fast.

i suggest looking into demo models. got my summer/family car Volvo s70 fully loaded for 10k less than regular. they even offered to throw in the turbo for free but my mom didnt want me driving around with an extra 100 horses. car came with only 12k on it
