It may look identical on the outside, but that link lists a few changes on the inside:
# High-quality materials OFC (oxygen-free copper wire) adopted by the S-shaped tone arm
# Further vibration damping to the realization of the three-tiered cabinet
# continuous pitch control accuracy improvement
Obviously, none of these things are a particularly big change, but it is only a limited thing to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the SL-1200, so its not going to be a huge upgrade... |

| Don't see the point in this unless it was offering USB/Firewire functionality. Most DJs are either using CDJs, Ableton Live or TTs with Serato, Torque, Traktor Live etc. And new DJs are probably better served going with CDJs or cheaper TTs...like maybe used MK2s. |

| Well they ed up their CD players, so back to basics I guess. So much for the innovation and reliability that made the 1200 a hit in the first place  |

Haha... this is a ridiculous update. TT's still have their place, please don't forget TURNTABLISTS. We EDM DJ's kind of forget them sometimes, but no matter how good the CDJ's have gotten they still just emulate a TT. And with a DVS you get the best of both worlds. I enjoy using traktor scratch with my 1200's, just because it's FUN.
What they SHOULD have done:
- Added a 78 RPM mode
- Detachable RCA, power, and ground cables (maybe even make them internally grounded, so you don't need the stupid wire).
- Add phono-preamps, so you'd have line-out as well as phono-out
- Add a USB port for digitizing vinyl
- Use the same digital pitch as the M5G, and add a little display that just shows the pitch setting to .02% increments.
- Allow for different pitch ranges, like a 4%, 8%, and 16%. That combined with the display would get you a very accurate TT.
- Throw some pitch bend buttons in there. The vestax has this, lets you correct just a little without touching the platter or riding the pitch.
Now THOSE would be very nice upgrades. Most of them are on other brands TT's already... |

Sorry but some of your suggestions are even more rediculous than what they have done. If you want to record vinyl to digital buy a decent soundcard, any integrated USB port will either use AD converters or will increase the price too much by using good AD. Utterly pointless. And if you really think a turntable needs pitchbend buttons you need to seriously look at your mixing technique, I honestly have never heard anyone complain about a decks lack of pitchbend buttons before, nor have I seen anyone actually use them on a deck that has them... |

Yeah, that's gonna happen. |

The Numark TTX (one specific model of it) now has USB output, it's not THAT expensive considering the deck already costs over $500. And people apparently DO want the feature. Just buying a sound-card is one thing, but then you'd also need a pre-amp (unless the table has line-out).
And pitch bend should have been added to decks about 10 years ago. For people who touch the platter, it's very easy to over correct. Just tapping a button would have been a welcome addition I'm sure.
Personally I ride the pitch, but only on my 1200's. On my CDJ-1000's, I never do that. If it's drifting, I pitch bend then adjust the pitch. And nearly everyone I've seen does the same.
Pitch bend is highly controllable, touching the platter or riding the pitch is less controllable.
Why fight progress?
As for the other suggestions, if you think detachable cables are a bad idea you're an idiot. People have been requesting 78rpm for years. And an integrated pre-amp would be nice considering new mixers (like the Pioneer DJM-800) don't have pre-amps on certain channels.
