any other ideas... im using battery 2 in cubase 3... |
I use cubase myself, so it does work. But apperently you arrange your drums in battery (I arrange them in the main sequencer windwow). So I still stick what I said before, have the trigger kick as an muted audio-channel (and have your other drums in battery). Because the mute-button is the one of the last things in the signal chain, the trigger function isn't effected by it. Since I do this myself all the time, I can assure you that if works flawlessly. |

I do sidechaining in cubase. You need a plugin that supports 3+4 quadro channel I believe. I use Voxengo Crunchessor.
1) create a quadro group
2) go to Devices->vst connections->group/fx, and right click on the new quadro channel, and create a child stereo and a child Ls Rs stereo
3) your bassline output should be routed to the stereo part of the quadro group
**4) your kick should be either routed to Ls Rs stereo of the quadro group or you can use a send to the same group.
5) go to the quadro group and create an insert using your plugin. Select 3 + 4, or quadro channel in the plugin so it knows you want stereo sidechaining.
6) Tweak your compressor till it sounds good
**Note, depending on which setting you use here, your kick will either play or not play. If you don't hear the kick but your bassline is pumping ok, just make a send from your kick to a mono or stereo channel, and you should hear it.
I usually use battery 2 with this method, but anything works obviously |

let me know if this works because i aint investing in that vst unless it defo works.
last time when i was messing about with quadro groups when i exported it as stereo it didnt mix down the quadro groups which is understandable but i couldnt figure out how to get it all mixed down with the quadro and stereo groups. |

| Whats so much better with stereo sidechaining anyway? Whats the actual difference? How is it working compared to mono? |

Stereo sidechaining can take a stereo source, and key it to a another stereo source. You can now use a kick to sidechain a widely panned lead, or pad.
Mono sidechaining will only take mono signals, and if you try to take that panned lead or pad with a kick, it will be in mono, and will lose its wideness.
Sorta it |

Ah... guess I've always used stereo sidechaning afterall then..
so in mono sidechaning the ducking sound always stays completely in mono? rofl.. who bothers to use that? |
