fantasy?

well really, pan's wasn't fantasy. the only reason i didnt like it as much as everyone else. an awesome film for sure, but the fantasy stuff was merely a sideshow to the actual crux of the film. i found that fact a little disappointing.

well i'm not surprised you feel that way. see, spending all your time debunking nut job conspiracy theorists and you've lost your sense of imagination!

;)

hahaha. my imagination in pop culture knows no bounds ;) i see no magic in reality, so i get it all from books, tvs and movies.

my problem with pan's is that the fantasy component only played a very small part of the overall tale. if i had known that going in, i wouldnt have been disappointed because it is a tremendous film.

I disagree - I think the crux of the film in the end was wondering which reality was a true representation of what happened - because if reality is in the eye of the beholder, than the little girl's fantastical dreams were, in fact, real.

oh, absolutely (though i tend to see it as completely the child's fantasy, but i can understand why people might say otherwise) but that is neither here nor there to whether i enjoyed the film. i wanted MORE fantasy, with some kind of greater narrative. i found the labyrinth scenes beautiful, but without much content. i thought the "trials" given to the girl were fairly ridiculous and without merit in the overall context of the film.

in other words, i wanted it to revolve more around the fantasy aspect of the storyline, rather than the escapist nature of the girl's narrative. even if the girl's fantasies were real, there weren't enough of them, and by themselves, they weren't interesting enough.

Yeah, but the nature of traditional fantasy in the first place is escapism. Pan's Labyrnth was a wonderful film, but the subject it dealt with was calling the very natures of fantasy and reality into question - kind of a bit heavy for fantasy. It's not fantastic enough. :p

Personally, the fact that there weren't any was fine by me. :p

Actually, the frog and the eyes-in-hands dude were enough for me. Stupid girl eating the grapes. :whip:

Oh man, that part made me so hard. The artwork for the fantasy scenes of the movie was ing amazing.

I think you summed up my feelings on the film as well.

Love this movie. I went exactly because it's something like Narnia. THe storyline is rather clever if you can accept that it's sci-fi mixed with a lot of fantasy. The graphics are amazing, and it's absolutely a visual feast. Everything is beautifully rendered and amazingly detailed. The characters, cities, ships, etc. If you like Narnia, you'll like this.

Oh, and Narnia: Prince Caspian looks awesome-o. They played the trailer just before this movie. :D

Pan's Labyrinth sucked. yes, largely due to expectations. I was hoping for 2-3 hours of mildy darkish fantasy, and all I got was a wartime drama with a couple chet zar rip-offs.
