Leet geeks rejoice, Merriam-Webster is on board to back you up:
| quote: | SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Merriam-Webster is giving online gamers something to "w00t" about.
The hybrid of letters and numbers used by gamers as an exclamation of happiness or triumph has topped all other terms in the dictionary publisher's online poll for the word that best sums up 2007.
The word was among 20 nominees in a list of the most-searched words in Merriam-Webster's online dictionary and most frequently submitted terms from users of its "open dictionary."
Merriam-Webster's president says "w00t" was the ideal choice because it blends whimsy and new technology.
One English professor says the choice was "amusing," but says it's "unlikely to last." |
I'll spare you all a 'w00t' reaction to this news that bound to pop up in journalistic reports and forum retellings all over the web.
