Question about a theremin and a mixer

For those of you who don't know, a theremin is that weird box instrument w/ two antennas sticking out and w/o touching it you produce music.
Theremins have an audio out 1/4" jack usually meant to hook into an amp, but can also be hooked into other devices. I was wondering if anyone would know from either logic or personal experience if I could hook a theremin into my Pioneer DJM-500 or if there was some way I could otherwise hook it into my dj setup, which consists of 2 turntables, pioneer cdj-200, djm-500, pioneer efx-1000, and speakers.
Logic tells me it is possible but I am not the smartest cat on the block so if anyone could help me out that'd be great.
thanks |

| 1/4" to rca adapter should work. should be an interesting experiment. theremins put out some crazy sounds. |

haha, yea I've seen all the youtube theremin vids and then some. I dont have an amp and figured if I was going to invest in a theremin, I'd like to save the money on an additional amp and instead use it in conjunction with my existing dj equipment which would in fact allow for a lot more creativity than a stand alone theremin.
Think I am going to go ahead and try it, if it doesnt work out, I still have a bad ass instrument on my hands to learn when not mixing. |

Would result in a mono sound I imagine, does the mixer have pan option? |

| just checked out some videos, either it is a very imprecise instrument, or people can't play it very well. if the instrument is actually that imprecise though, it seems pretty . |

to Skot e,
yea my mixer has a pan option, but even in mono, it will still sound like i've heard and seen it whether in songs (NIN/radiohead) or the videos and samples online, which is sufficient.
If nothing else, I can always put a slight delay on the sound to beef it up or a little reverb.
to PKCraistlin,
if by imprecise you mean its hard to repeat notes with ease then yes, thats clear since there are no keys or markers. To repeat sounds and notes on the theremin takes getting used to playing it and practice, as with other instruments. I just like that how to play the notes is up to me instead of formalistic rules I'd have to follow like w/ guitar or piano, both very nice instruments in their own right. Over time the placement of notes does change with the theremin since soundwave displacement changes over time but thats a very gradual process and can be adjusted for. Some really beautiful music can be played on them from what i've heard. |

my theremin ouputs line level, so a simple jack->RCA plug would sort it.
Also get a mono split so its not only on one channel. |

oh look, i know virtually nothing about music, but i do have a reasonably keen ear for pitch. i just found that with each change of note there is a "warbly" slightly off-key note, as if instead of playing A to C for instance, there'd be a hint of B (or an off key flat/sharp etc) in there as well for a split second.
if someone was playing this during a melodic trance tune for instance, it would struggle to blend perfectly with the rest of the song. of course, perhaps there are pros out there and i only watched some of the beginners. |

hey Freak,
what kind of theremin do you have? I am currently deciding between a Kees, w/ shipping $260, and a Moog, w/ shipping $380. I've read Moogs are the way to go if you have the money but that Kees are not only a sensational value but do produce good enough sound to justify not buying a Moog for the extra cash. Any opinion? |
