DJing is still a profession.
Some people may be in it for the enjoyment, others more for the money. Just like every other business. |

$38 to charity for a $48 shirt is actually pretty commendable. |

bang-on.
The 'if Tiesto really wanted to help' comments don't even apply - he IS helping. You either are helping or you are not. There isn't a 'sort of' helping - if he benefits from it too, meh whatever.
I don't understand why people become so condescending to DJs who also choose to make money for themselves - it's a job at the end of the day. They aren't the Mother Theresa incarnate.
And I also doubt he's even making money. He's probably just lending his name. What percentage is left for him to take after manufacturing, shipping and retail take their cuts? |

Good post.
Seriously people -- it's no secret that 'celebrity' attracts attention which in turn drives $. How many stars are out there piping out about some cause and asking for donations? Speaking at a dinner engagement for where it's $2000+ a plate and proceeds going to charity? I don't see any of you knocking ppl for that. I give Tiesto props because he's gone into new territory for someone who's acquired some 'fame' through EDM.
Besides, you'd be hard pressed to find any charity-related product/promotion that doesn't specify that only a 'portion' of proceeds go to the charity in question -- and from that portion after you take away the administrative costs of running the charity there (usually) isn't much left towards the initial cause. |

exstasie: You think he was in it for money back in 1998 when no one knew who the the guy was???
Try again, yes he is hugly famous and there is no doubt he is in it to be the biggest he can be. With that comes the usual - money, fame and success. I mean look at armin right now he is going down the exact same path. But that does not mean they still dont have the same amount of passion for the music (although armin live is usually average at best, where tiesto is either or unstoppable)
I think the sad thing is the fact that people still talk about tiesto the most on tranceaddict. Completely agree with irishaddict on this one.
Tiesto is going into new terrorities. I can only imagine the topics if he wins that grammy (although that album does not deserve it)
I hope he keeps getting bigger. So the underground can bitch more! |
