Car Accident Advice:

So i was in an accident and appears as if my car could be a write off. Terrible timing since i drive a car thats only worth like $4000 if i sold it and i have no money to invest in an upgrade.

Upon checking auto trader in the $4000-5000 range, it appears my best options are:

2001-03 Dodge Neon
2001-02 Nissan Sentra

I'd appreciate any advice regarding these cars from your experiences etc.

Also feel free to suggest anything else, but note that i want to stay within the 2001-03 range at the $4-5g range. So my options are obviously limited.

thanks

My sister has an '03 Neon...good little car.

If you constantly have money coming in (i.e., you're employed), I recommend leasing a new car: on a number of cars you can put down a few grand and pay less than $300.00 per month (e.g. on a 3 or 4 year lease). New cars have warranties and (often) come with many free services (e.g. boosting a dead battery); used cars are often a gamble (I've been there).

 Amature... file an Accident Benefits claim, use the money they give you for treatment to get a better car. Talk to Chem_Enhanced, he can refer you to some good fraudsters who will help you out.

Thats me.

Put down a few grand and pay $297.81 a month for a new Acura CSX.

They have an amazing service plan. Anywhere in Canada they'll boost you, tow you, unlock your car if you lock your keys in it (for 4 years).

The guy who sold me the car told me that If I'm ever really drunk and can't drive home, just to call the number and they'll 'tow' me home for free haha.

I believe there was a thread about this not too long ago?

Get the insurance money, drive down to US, buy a civic or sentra there. I would add another 3-4K and get something more recent though.

Definite no on Neon. Sentra sounds like a better deal.

EDIT.

Even in Toronto...
1999 HONDA CIVIC

1999 HONDA CIVIC 2 DOOR DX
manual, 3 dr., 4 cyl., gas, front wheel, black exterior, grey interior, bucket seats, air conditioning, am-fm stereo, cassette, tilt wheel, drivers air bag, passenger air ... more

$ 4,999.00 119,700 km

thanks for the replies so far!

to be honest i've never really liked the neon that much, just because of the rut that i'm in now, it seemed as one of the 'better' options. I think i'll stear more focus to the sentra...I've been searching google etc for info, but if anyone has personal experience with the car, i'd appreciate the info.

Moral Hazard: i'm obviously filing an accident benifit claim, sorry if my wording through you off, i meant $4000 is most likely the area i'll receive.

ps. i knew people would ramble on about the upgrade issue. but i said i have no money for that. 2 years from now car payments are fine, now - no. So i'm strict on dealing with what i get.

both cars are garbage, i used to have that same nissan 2002, horrible
get a mazda protege 2002 or a civic
zoogla
+1 on all the Civic recommendations. 2000 was an awesome year if you can get your hands on one of those.

If you know anyone who has access to the car auctions, that's the best value for money for the market segment you're in (i.e. $4-5K range). Wholesale price FTW!
