I'm trying to record from a guitar into the back of my sound card. I can only get the sound to -24dB for some reason. My sound card is an M-Audio Delta AP Multi.

A guitar mic, like a lot of passive mics, uses a very low db gain. You could either retrofit a battery-powered active mic into your guitar, or get yourself an active Direct Injection box.

All good guitarists should actually have one of these!

You didn't mention whether your guitar is acoustic or electric. Sounds like you are plugging an electric straight into your sound card. Be sure you use the line in jack on your sound card, not the microphone jack. Crank up the line in volume on your sound controls. Dunno what else to tell you.
