This is probably piss to fix but
when i go to view files in a directory (music ones) instead of appearing A-Z they're in a weird order. I know i can arrange them by name but i don't wanna keep doing that. How do I fix the folder options (on xp pro) so they reappear back in the 0-Z format they used to be in. I've not done anything that I'm aware of to make it happen
cheers :) |

open the floder and click on tname ? or right click in the folder sort by name ? | i think he's done that. It should change your settings so that next time you go into that folder it should be the same.
but if not, i think you'd have to right click on the actual folder and see folder options? i dunno |

that's what im having to do each time. until about 2 days ago it was always set to order by name. I've looked in folder options & allsorts but can't see anything pertaining to it. it's annoying to be so randomly ordered & i dont know why it is :p |

If you're in Windows, open up to that particular folder and set it up how you like it, eg. view icons/tiles/details/etc., status bar, order by name, whatever.
Then, go to Tools > Folder Options, and under the 'View' tab make sure 'Remember each folder's view settings' is checked. If you're adventurous and want all folders to be displayed the same way, you can click the 'Apply to All Folders' button. |

Well, it changes stuff like the control panel and my computer to all display the same way.
For me, I like folders to use the 'detailed' list and have the status bar. I also dislike having the nag screens such as hiding the contents of \program files and \windows. |

cheers. that's done it for everything apart from the few songs i still have on my desktop, but i can deal with just 1 small area of random ordering :) |

Well, for the desktop, the icons are arranged spatially.
You _could_ right-click > arrange icons by name, but that would rearrange everything and move stuff so that it's all clumped together.
You could always order it by hand (if there aren't too many), or create a folder and move the files in, sort the folder, and then drag the files back to your desktop. Not sure if that would preserve the ordering. You may have to switch it to be icon view in the folder first.

| Sort them as you want then ctrl-click the close button. Should save it next time you open. |

| Nice, I didn't know the ctrl+click close trick. Thanks. =) |
