Oh boy, i think that the "Golevka" cd i have has melted from the extreme over-playing! Extremely good music, godly music! I also loved "Eighteens Robins Road", that was quite Pink Floydish actually.Lovely. Definitely looking forward to the new album...but what are you saying here..."they've broken up"? Yeah, Golevka is out of this world. It really rises above all the derivative and slightly boring post-rock out there and stands out as an incredibly powerful record. The tracks are long and epic in dimension, but not just for the sake of it, they're beautifully constructed, they build up a lot of suspense and there is a real payoff in the climaxes. Also it's mixed properly, it's heavy, it's loud and very powerful. I like how the drums cut through the wall of noise in the mix so that there is always a sense of drive even in the really noisy climax parts.
I've listened to Eighteen Robins Road an insane amount of times lately, it's insane. And it sounds a little Floydian, that's what i thought too, especially the chord structure in last/third of the three movements (from the 11 min mark). Also the groove in first part, very space rock.
I've seen people in some places on the internet saying they've broken up. But it could just be a false rumour. Let's hope so. |

Fred Baker/Active Sight album is meant to to come out sometime next year. Should be good, althoguh I'm not too big a fan of Fred Baker's techy orientated tracks.
On a different note, GZA's new album 'Pro Tools' is set to drop in Jan '08. Looking forward to it, GZA is one of my all time favourite mc's. |

I hope its just a rumour because they are trully amazing. Their first album is also sold-out. Too bad that they don't have wider distribution of their music. There is so much crappy music that you can find easily, and when it comes to something of true quality you can't get it. Its trully a shame!
Anyway, all the tracks of Golevka are sublime. My beloved special favourite is "Taijin Kyofusho". I love how it builds up slowly, with snippets of quitar and violin played side by side to the communications of the Columbia mission and suddenly, after a certain point, the tune literally explodes in a breathtaking crescendo with the electric violin and quitars in full-effect. Its emotionally devastating. I think that this tune encapsulates Columbias last moments. Trully amazing, this is what music IS for.
"Prognoz", "cosmic call" and "dipole experiment" are also beyond words. Perfect music to listen to under a night-sky full of stars. As the titles of the tracks suggest, this is cosmic music. |
