The Hole in the Center of a Vinyl

Okay, so I have some whitelabels and a few other vinyls where the hole in the center is very small and it fits very tight around the nipple on the turntable.

This causes a few problems:
A. Putting it on
B. When trying to release the vinyl on beat, it's hard to do this without stopping the platter altogether.
C. Taking it off

Is there anything I can do about this?

Just wait till it wears in ;)

Or..get a reamer, and make the hole slightly larger. Not much to it! *shrug*

just take it off and put it on a bunch of times. that should help a little. after a while it should get better.

For the really bad ones I'll actually take a knife to it. Just with a pretty dull knife lightly go around the inside of the hole, trying to take an even amount off all around. The amount you take off is barely even noticeable, so don't go overboard....if you do too much the thing will skip a lot. Just do way less than you think you need to, and put it on and make sure you have to do more, then repeat if necessary.

Most of them you just have to play them a couple times and they won't be bad anymore...

Seriously, just get a pen and stick it through a couple of times...

Anything else and you are looking at problems. Start carving bits away and you can make the hole off center and this will create tempo issues not to mention the fact that you will get a record that skips when you are queing it.

Yeah, I should reiterate again, just to make sure. With what I said you are not carving bits away. If you see any bits, you're doing way too much. Just stick a dull knife in the hole so it's very lightly pushed against both edges and turn it a couple times. The first time you do it, do it even lighter than you think, just to make sure you don't ruin the record.

This is the fastest method and it works really well, but you do have to be careful to avoid what he's saying.

Throw them away and buy CDJs.
