| It doesn't read the CD - AT ALL! It doesn't even TRY to spin it up! All other APPs work fine but, not EAC! I uninstalled and re-installed the programme but, that didn't help. Is Beat 4 out yet? If so, I'll get it but, if it's not, what can I do? It worked fine until about 2 months ago, this just started happening... If I uninstall the driver to my CD Drive, Reboot, and have WinXP detect it as "New Hardware", will this do the trick? Please let me know! ALL HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPREACIATED! |

weird. i JUST(like 5 minutes ago) downloaded this program, from here: http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/eac6.html
i have heard it is the best for making one long mp3 out of your CDs
so, i am trying it out, it seems to work, there is no problem with the program.
the only thing i don't understand is, when i tell it to write a compressed file, why does it start writing a .wav file? |

well, i tried this program out last night.
i set it to record the entire contents of my CD, compressed.
i came into work this morning, and it's STILL going!
it's been almost 15 hours!
jeesus christ, this mp3 better be so clear i can smell the sweat from the room! |

what frontend are you using? Use Lame 3.**, it is the best!
settings i use are, 192vbr (for albums) or cbr (for mix's), with the high quality setting enabled. they turn out at about 1.5mb per minute, which is not bad for almost perfect quality. |

aspi? what the heck is that?
i've been ripping CDs forever, never needed to upgrade anything before, and not willing to if it's going to make my machine unstable.
it finally finished ripping 16 hours later, and i am left with a huge .wav file even though i said record compressed.
I am going to run it through the lame winamp plugin, at 192kbps i guess..
which is also what i specified for the encoder in EAC, i am using the newest version of lame, 3.92 i think. |

sheesh.
I just opened the .wav file. it's 746Mb of silence!

aspi layer is kinda like the drivers for your cd recorder, but is not a strictly a driver. it is an essential part of windows! if you have win xp/2000 upgrade it does not come with the latest version (dunno about full version of xp/2000 or any other ver of windows, but it is recommended to upgrade if you have any win OS)! it is worth upgrading as you may have problems in windows (esp. cd drive) if you do not have the latest one!

hmm..
i did recently upgrade to winXP, from win98
maybe that is the problem?
probably windows trying to block me from recording a copyrighted CD.
it's only for backup purposes, i swear!
i'm not sure if i want to go installing stuff though, this is my work computer.
i will get my buddy with the same setup to try first, if it don't work for him, then i will upgrade my aspi i guess. |
