Near death experiences

What is your cloest brush with death? Lets not try to make this a morbid thread anyways. Laugh at death :stongue:

I have a 2 way tie.

1) para gliding off this mntn top. The dumb ass instructor forgot to prep the chute and jumped off the cliff too soon. There were about 100 strands tangled and the chute collapsed. I dont even know how far we fell but I was on the bottom/front. we crashed into a tree and it broke (no idea how my legs didnt break) then we fell about 50 feet to the ground...just some scratches and the instructor was outta breath from me landing on him lol. weeee.

2) scuba diving. got nitrogen narcosis at about 100 feet. thats where you feel drunk because nitrogen is affected by pressure and cold and I was 100 feet under puget sound BRRR. anyways my bud and I ended up going to 140 feet. Which was very stupid. Thats basically the point where you are going to get the bends as soon as you come up. the bends is where the pressure makes the nitrogen bubbles small and then you come up and they are stuck in your joints...and it locks all your joints all bent up and you float face down. anyways. my friend wasnt certified and he panicked and breathed fast and ran out of air at 80 feet...he used the last of his air to fill up his BC and shot to the surface like a small missile. He must cleared 4 feet out of the water lol. I swam back thinking damn as soon as I get to the surface im gonna lock up...amazingly nothing happened. I seriously dont know why. Everyone else told us we shoulda died down there.

ok...maybe that was slightly morbid...interesting though? I dunno. its late and Im tired. Just keep away from the horribly depressing stuff where people die and get maimed and then we are all sad, make it one of those happy "Sall good" near death experiences :D

and this is sort of in response to the boring topics thread... maybe this'll be a fun read for people =P

well, i'm not sure if this counts, but we could have died so maybe it does...

my friend and I were driving (in his car) to see pvd in DC back in november. We were on 490 in Baltimore when another car pulled into our lane, cutting us off. my friend swerved so we didn't hit the car. the roads were wet, and the car began doing donuts...omg...there were so many other cars on the highway! I'll never forget seeing all the headlights coming at us! to this day, i still don't know how we made it through it without getting hurt. the worst part was that as it all was going down, we were both thinking-oh no, not going to be able to see pvd tonight! on a side note, we didn't get to see him after all. argh, i even bought a ticket in advance. had the delay with the accident, and then got completely lost in DC, i asked EVERYONE how to get to the armory. not a good trip. ouch.

damm....i'm certified, but havent gone since (1.5 yrs) and i've dove in puget sound...went down to...shut cant remember, about 70 feet max??? i guess....anyways, that is damm scary...

i was in a pretty crazy car crash last summer, and walked out with minor bruises:) without having 1000's of cars crash into me as i rolercoastered on the highway:eek:
fell off a cliff once (about 25 feet) (when 6) only to land on my back on soft dirt:) but those werent near death encounters, but more of a type of "i got lucky, or spared" type a thing...
