im having problems sending a sysex data (bank) to my access virus using cubase. i think it has something to do with a checksum error.
i know i had problems before with my jp8000 before but there was an application called jplibrary that solved my problems... is there anything like that for the virus maybe??
thanks

ps. also, my cubase always crashes now when it is working with my virus... wierd..

have you got sysex activated on the synth?

I had this problem with my JP and it had me baffled for ages

I used to do tech support for for access and the common problem was with the midi interface (from cubase) sending the data too fast. make your BPM below 50 (30 is better) and try resending.

If your cubase is still giving you problems try sending it via Midi-OX (again with the correct settings like large buffers etc.)

Hope this helps.

k i tried sending with 30bpm but still didnt work...

and i must be an idiot cuz i cant figure out midi-ox for the life of me.. i changed the buffer settings nad stuff and the sysex data still wont send. it says that the midi port is currently being used or wahtever...
hmmm, i saw that vsex is a librarian for the virus but its command line and sooo complicated.. (i think?)

any suggestions?

I can't really help you, but I can tell you this..
I use cubase myself and a virus b, and when I've loaded
a bank to the virus is has worked like a charm without
changing settings etc. I've previously also loaded
banks through cubase to my JP. (Btw, the bpm has always
been the standard 120 when I've done this.)

hmm, it's been a while since I loaded up the banks of my Virus. I think I may have used a separate program though (? I get confused... I've loaded up heaps of synths with heaps of sounds, and many synths have their own software for managing the patch banks...)

I'd recommend though, just attach the Virus by itself to the MIDI in and out, just to make sure there's no possibility anything else is getting in the way of the signal. That's an issue I had once.

+1, That's a very good point. Also, sounds daft but check your midi cables for faults/correct routing.

ok so everything is fine.. i mean i made a whole song using just factory presets and my own custom sounds.
my problem is when i start playing a sysex/midi bank then i see the data being transfered thru but i get this wierd "S E" icon beside the preset name on the lcd display.
i mean the bank in question is manuel shcesis' incubation volu 1.
i got it for free off of access music's website.

hmm, any thoughts?

I'd have to check my Virus KC's manual...you're following the instructions in your manual, I take it? It's been ages since I did any sysex dumps on my Virus, a lot of synths need to be in "ready to receive" mode before the data is sent. Not sure if the Virus is one of those.

(from memory..though it's hazy...I think I may have used a dedicated piece of software. I seem to remember seeing all the patch names on my screen as it was sending them across, and it showed the names of the patches which used to be in my Virus) Have you looked around for dedicated software? I may be off on this, but it'd be worth checking out.

patch names are supposed to be flying? wow, im doing something wrong.. yeah ive used my sequencer and a dedicated midi program but i still freeze up half way thru the transfer. ie) the midi file appears to be sending fine now and i get a clock and a note icon alternating besides the patch name which seems to be working....

but then my computer freezes mid transfer and just locks up on me...

soo confused.. and am desperate to get this to work :p

Your computer freezing up sounds like a problem with your soundcard/audio interface buffers, but some more info would help.

1, What soundcard are you using?
2, What is the exact OS of the virus?
3, How exactly do you have it cabled up?
4, What program are you using to send it?

1. maudio delta 44
2. os 4.9 14.01.04
3. i have a usb/midi cable.. the out from the computer to the in of the synth and vice versa
4. im using cubase (just freezees) or bome's sendsx

basically i can see it transfering (when using bome's sendsx) up to 300 lines out of 1000 or so and then it just freezes and whole computer is dead.
