Saw a bunch of films this year.
I don't think I have a favourite. Some of the good ones included:
- No Country for Old men
- Tranformers
- SuperBad
- American Gangster
I haven't seen Eastern Promises or the Daniel Day Lewis movie but I'm sure they would make the list. Both look sick! :) |

I didn't really watch the bad movies - I listened to the critics.
My favorite movies of this year though:
Stardust
Superbad
Eastern Promises
Mr. Brooks
Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Those are all I can recall that stand out.
Stardust in particular - but I already love anything that Neil Gaiman does. |

I'm sure I'm missing a couple of movies that I've seen. I've also haven't seen 20 movies this year, so I'll just put down which movies disappointed me as the "worst" (even if they weren't really bad movies, just disappointing), and which movies were actually good as the best. It's also hard to order some of these movies, so I'll just list em in a somewhat descending order:
BEST:
- Disturbia (really suspenseful, kept me glued the entire time)
- The Mist (well done movie imo. The twist at the end alone was worth it)
- 28 Weeks Later (done RIGHT. some of the scenes were ing crazy.)
- No Country For Old Men (started off really well, but fizzled to a poor ending. It's like they ran out of ideas on how to end it)
- Bourne Ultimatum
- Superbad (I didn't like it that much at first, but it's definitely the better comedy to have come out this year. Good humour is really lacking in movies recently. Either my standards for "funny" are higher now, or the general public lowered theirs)
WORST:
- Transformers (Each one of these 3 movies has sucked sooooo badly. So unoriginal, so hyped, such a disappointment.)
- Spiderman 3 (I felt like my intelligence was insulted after watching each one.)
- 300 (They're tied for first place as the worst movies I've seen this year. Hard to pick which one sucked more)
ALLRIGHT:
- American Gangster (This was allright, but again, overhyped. It brought nothing new to the table, and I walked away from it thinking I've seen yet another gangster movie. Should have been called "Typical gangster movie")
- Knocked Up (Kinda funny, but the male protagonist really pissed me off throughout the entire thing. I think he was supposed to be likable tho)
- Shooter (Cliched story and dialogue, but was kinda fun to watch)
- Epic Movie (i've apparently seen this, but can't remember ANYTHING about it at all, not if it was good, not if it as bad, nothing at all. Although I'm tempted to say these facts imply that it was terrible.)
- SAW IV (Not sure where to put this movie. It definitely did the job of grossing me the out, but overall it was stupid, like all the other Saw movies)

Bay is a big-budget action director... it's what he does... mindless entertainment with the no depth or intelligence (LET'S HIDE THE CUBE IN THE CITY!). You can't make a Transformers movie without it being completely ridiculous. Somebody's gotta do it.
My top of 2007: No Country for Old Men. Simply mindblowing. Sunshine is up there too, followed by Superbad.
Really want to see There Will be Blood, Wind that Shakes the Barley, Atonement, This is England, In the Shadow of the Moon, Juno, plus many others.
My worst of 2007: Across the Universe. Visual artistry was amazing but characters and story fell into all the common musical genre traps. Sweeney Todd was pretty bland too... time for Tim Burton to get off the German expressionism train.
Also, it's worth mentioning that, while I've only seen bits and pieces, the new Blade Runner Final Cut looks pretty damn sweet. |

i agree i usually dont like the work of michael bay
however,
i thought transformers was a great action movie and it as a movie did almost everything i wanted it to do.
i think michael bay should be staying away from movies like 'pearl harbor' that are based on historical events because that movie was pretty badly done (in the words of matt stone & trey parker from team america 'i miss you more than michael bay missed the mark when he made pearl harbour, i miss you more than that movie missed the point....why does michael bay get to keep on making movies? i guess pearl harbor sucked...')
but an action movie based on a cartoon with lots of special effects as a necessity (how else you going to get giant robots to run around?) i think he mightve found his niche and i personally am waiting for transformers 2 |

| Porky |
Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine) like trippy visuals plus a heartwarming story of pure inspiration. one of my top films of all time. touching and powerful, please go see this work of art.
the story is on par with 'Life is Beautiful' and the book 'Man's Search for Meaning - Viktor Frankl...... nothing is impossible. |
