You also stated that the walls were red brick etc. The other thing to consider is to get some accoustic treatment for the walls and placement of the speakers, as the guys have stated if you have bad placement of monitors you may as well have crap. There is a lot to think about but ultimately you should try and put yourself in a situation where you can listen to them, get examples of their stereo qualities and how the frequency response is in your ears.

I have the KRK 5's with Edirol UA-25 USB Interface, the speakers arnt the best for bass but you just have to make sure you dont put too much bass in the track, I was thinking of getting the sub that comes with it but it again is expensive.

The Edirol is wicked, I had to put it on a separate USB hub controller on my pc to sort latency but is kool apart from that, I think I get 11ms latency now, I had to get some gold tipped 1/4 cable jacks for like £10 each in the end to stop a buzz I was getting, now I get nothing.

They are amazing speakers otherwise and dead cheap for the quality and technology you are getting.

I will use this thread as I am in similar situation, I am thinking to buy KRK or Eevent monitors, first my room is pretty small 3x4m, models I found for my price are: krk rp6, krk rp8, event tr6, event tr8(or maybe some other in similar price?). I am useing headphones akg240 so any of this monitors would do his job? as they are probably not high end ones.

This is a good thread lots of good advice here. About 4 years ago I bought the Mackie HR824s just because of their reputation and now I regret it horribly. I know it was a rookie mistake, just buying something because of the good things you hear or read about them. I really hate these things for production. Defintely need to get something new and I will reference this thread when the time comes.

If I were in the market for inexpensive monitors, I would get these :

i don't want to get down on you, but i really hope you take (took?) the standard monitor advice and listen to them first. we say this for a reason - because reviews and statistics mean all man. any speaker can go down to 50hz, it just might sound because they've had to put a huge ass port in the back that turns bass into nothing but a muddy drone.

...not that anyone seems to listen these days.

for the record, the fact that tapco are made by mackie means nothing, don't let marketing sway you. the mackies being sold today are not the same as the mackies being sold 10 years ago - 10 years ago they used Vifas, now they use Superhappyfuntimeyumchas. ^_^

PS. Without seeing an actual frequency graph, it is safe to ignore frequency response entirely. It is an estimate at best and saying a speaker goes down to 40hz does not mean it goes down to 40hz WELL.

RESEARCH!

I'm not saying Tapco are crap though. I'm just saying you're going about the decision the wrong way. If you want something good, put the effort in.

Stop being such a prick, you're forgetting that some people may not have access to a shop that sells monitors. There was only one shop anywhere near me that sold any type of monitors, and they only had one brand (quested).
And saying that reviews mean ' all' is an outright lie.

yeah, and demoing monitors.. what exactly are you gonna hear? what if one monitor colours the bass more than another one, you're going to think it "sounds better" and deviate towards that?

its like derivative said.. as long as you stick to your monitor and learn the way it sounds, and reference pro tracks on it then you will learn to harness its pros/cons

So according to the original post, he's comparing RP5 vs TR8 ? Is it really fair ? He should compare RP8 to TR8. These TR8 are 8inches and pretty powerful.

Anyway, I'm watching the topic. I'm buying my first real monitors within a few days and I'm going in stores to listen to them. The only store in Montreal who carries Event speakers (store is Steve's Music) didn't have the TR6 nor TR8 in stock so I couldn't listen to them. But I'm more thinking about RP6 vs TR6. I listened to the RP6 and I was very impressed, but I'll wait to see what the TR6 delivers. Also, the Yamaha HS50M seems to be a great option. I didn't listen to it yet, and I know that many don't like Yamaha sounds, but it's worth listening to it.

So this weekend, it's Yamaha vs KRK. Then when my TR6 comes in, it's him vs the winner of the weekend haha ;)

I live in an appartment and I don't think it would be great to get a 8inches woofer speaker. Too powerful, too much bass, I'm in a small room. 6 inches will do the trick. And it's less expensive ;) I'd go for the JBL if I had the money...I <3 JBL :)
