i have an old Numark 6 channel mixer(its junk...no band kill knobs..just -15db drop eqs) and a pair of 1200's. Now i want to get back into the game after a 8 year retirement. I want to upgrade my gear but i'm not sure what i should invest in. i dont want to spend big bucks...but i want to get some stuff that will enable me to let me go digital.
i was thinking of going for a Pinoeer djm 600, torq and a cdj 800mk1. Now i love the vinyl but im not about to spend all that cash again on buying vinyl. Also I would like to learn how to use the cd decks. \basically I want to be able to play clubs again and I see that most clubs have the cdj's. I dont thnk it is a good idea for me to stick to vinyl. Also i think it would be an asset to have a cdj.
I'll be spinning prog trance.
What do you think i should do? |

No i'm not new to djing..i djed for about 7 years. My 1200s are in mint condition.
I'm just thinking if i were to jump back into a club I would feel all screwed up becuase if the technological advancements. I need to be able to step up and be comfortable. Its not like I'm some sort of superstar and can ask to have any setup I want. I need to be able to play with what is offered.
i know my 1200s are still good...and I really dont like cd's but hey its what is needed to survive.
Basically i dont want to buy vinyl and I want to be able to play with my music.
i dont need any super advanced stuff. I think the Djm 600 will suit me fine..but if there is any cheaper mixers with the same features, that can perform the same then i'm up to it.
i dont want to spend a mint and I want to feel comfortable again. |

| Get a Numark DXM09 mixer (very inexpensive but excellent value for what you pay for) and Serato ScratchLIVE. Keep your 1200s. Learn to use Serato (very easy!) and you'll be caught up in no time. :) You're spending about a total of $700-$800. |

Are you suggesting Serato isn't portable? I am a resident at three clubs and all I need to do is bring my laptop, Serato box, carts, and two records. You will not find a club that doesn't have a pair of turntables. |

Well sticking with the TT doesn't sound so bad...but there is no way in heel I'm gonna buy another Numark mixer. I wont buy Gemini or Numark...had both and they all suck balls. I dont know about now...but man when I had them they all broke down pretty fast.
I have a Numark 1800x with the snake light if anybody wants it for cheap. Needs a new crossfader though.
Whast wrong with Torq |

You definitely have to be familiar with cdjs if you're gonna do club again. A lot of the clubs down here use their 1200s for coasters (sad, I know).
I've got cdj-800 mk2s and I use Torq with them. Works great! |

Can't really argue against Torq...used it for over a year, but recently switched to Serato since I'm mostly a Hip-Hop guy now.
1200s as coasters? Shame :( |

1200s as coasters? Shame :( | Seen worse. I saw some people do lines off them while they were spinning, but that was just kinda funny. |

I find that using serato in a club is a hassle, I guess it depends alot on how the booth is set up.
The weird thing is I used serato with cdj1000s for the first time last night and the cue points weren't holding properly :( |

Well yeah, unfortunately with Serato (and every other timecode-based DJ software) you must use the built-in cue point system of the software. For example, the five cue points are controlled by the number keys on the keyboard. I'll completely admit, that's one down side of using such software. But I find it much more flexible with my mixing. Guess it just depends on your style. |
