Using an external usb soundcard for recording

Just picked up this AVE PL05U USB External Soundcard from dj gear shop
SITE

I bought it with the intention of using it to record from my decks into my laptop to bypass the laptops own line-in which suffers from big feedback issues where it picks up the hard drive noise etc.
Im having some trouble with the settings though, see it didnt come with a manual. Ive got the RCA from my Vestax VMC-002 Record Out line, into the Soundcard's PREAMP/PHONO LINE IN, then with the USB connection going into my laptop.

Though Im getting very different results with trying to record into sound forge. Anyone know what the best settings on the soundcard box would be? In terms of should it be set to LINE or PHONO, USB or EXTERNAL, and should the filter be FLAT or CUT?

cheers folks :)

Well, since your using your mixers Line Out you should be using your soundcards Line In. Sounds all a little too obvious now? :tongue2

The safe bet is to just leave the filter of flat but cut might not be too bad because it will probably just cut out sub freqs that are no benefit to your end result.

As I said the mixer line out is already hooked up to the soundcard's line in, it's the settings on the front of the soundcard Im confused about.
Cheers for the advice on the filter

put the input switch on line, filter on flat, power on usb if you don't want to use an external power supply and don't have any problems with powering the card thru usb.

I also bought PL05U from DJ store, but cannot get clean signal.
I take a signal from my main analogue amplifier adaptor sockets, RCA out, and connect to PL05U Phono/line In, but the sound (on headphones) is badly distorted.

I tried taking signal direct from phono turntable but that doesn't work either.

I am getting contradictory advice. Have you any suggestions for the correct hookup.

Really need advice. Tks
