| that may seem like a stupid question to some, but I've always been wondering does the "Artist X pres. Artist Y - Song name " mean that artist Y is A.K.A as Artist X or that Artist X wanna promote Artist Y???? |

| Sometimes the former, sometimes the latter. |

Yes, it's sometimes one or the other. An immediate example of the former is Elevation, who was promoted under Markus Schulz when he released Clear Blue.
As for the latter, here are a few of obvious examples:
Mike Foyle presents Statica- Space Guitar
Peter Martin presents Anthanasia- Perfect Wave
Niklas Harding presents Arcane- Ice Beach
Arksun- Arisen (Airbase presents Parc mix)
It's just a way for an artist to begin advancing a side project of their's that exists under a different alias, like a collaboration with another artist (as is the case with Arcane). |

| Some labels also demand to keep the rights for a certain alias of an artist, and this is a way to get around it. Like if I sign the rights to my name, "Lokhen" exclusivly to one label, I can release a track on another label as "Lokhen pres. Unicorns". |

| It all has to do with exclusivity of the artist name. When a label wants exclusive rights to your artist name, then you do a presents so people (fans) can recognize that its still you but with a different name. In other cases it's when an artist wants to take a different approach to his music, an 'alter ego' of sorts. |

| Almost every trance artist used that presenting two or three years ago. I never got why. Why not just use the alias? Because of $$$? Artist X & Artist Y presents Collaboration Z. Looks so ing horrible. |

it would have meant that every bonzai release during its prime time would have been:-
m.i.k.e pres. - '.............'
i was fun in the glory days to find out that mike was behind pretty much every good trance track. made it more fun researching for new material. |

i never understood it either. the people who do this clearly want recognition & attention, otherwise they'd just use the alias and be done with it. you're right, it's all about the $$$. |

Yes. It's really cool to find out things. Researching and browsing Discogs is a part of this hobby :) |

| My favorite discovery was probably that Minilogue and Son Kite were the same two guys. |
