When to switch the bass?

I'm having trouble switching bass between 2 songs. I know that it different for every song but is there a general rule to follow?

I usually have song A bass at 1 o'clock then bring in song B with bass at 10 o'clock. Then wait for a 32 bar hit and then do a quick switch.

Please advise... thnx!:D

BTW does it differs when playing at clubs with loud systems?

I usually don't switch it so much as I sneak it in a little bit at a time, but sometimes a switch up can sound great is timed properly.

So how do u bring up bass from song B?

BTW this is for a club system, which gets me confused sometimes with being it so loud.

Most of the time I leave the bass at 12 o'clock and use the rotary faders to bring the track in while i take the other one out slowly. Keep an eye on the master channel's gain.

what always works for me is to say the greek alphabet backwards after the 3rd beat of the song i am mixing in.

as soon as you hit the "pha" of "alpha", then crank that bass!

see how ridiculous rules are? forget about them

You could always do what Armin does and drop the bass for one bar before the next major phrase, before putting in a new the new bass.

general rule hard to come by....

but for me: I always bring in song B bass at 8 o clock...(almost null). i find it easier to sneeak in when i start it very low and slowly tweak it up to full power over about 60 seconds. i reduce song A bass at a slightly faster rate than i bring up song B bass. but i always look for small dips/breaks to feed in B bass faster becuase there will be less chance of an error that way. some songs do lend themselves to a full/fast bass swap too - i'll do that if it allows me.

as you know, the more you can reduce song A bass first the less it will clash with B. keep in mind if you were to SLOWLY drop song A bass to half, the crowd would barely notice...this give you opportunity to bring in B bass a little smoother.

it's at full volume. so basically i bring in the high and mid first.

with my volume fader at 0, i usually start my high at normal (full, 12 o'clock) power - i beatmatch off the highs. my mid starts at 9 (half). bass totally off or almost off at 8.

with my eqs pre-positioned that way, i slowly bring up the first 2/3s of the volume fader over the first about 30 seconds, then bring the last 1/3 over the next 15-20 seconds. so by about 60 seconds i am fully in on volume. over the next 30-60 seconds more, i gradually trade off/swap all the eqs over to B, then of course finish by fading out/cutting volume on A.
