Mixing with the Behringer VMX300

Hi.

Has anybody mixed with this mixer before? Pretty decent mixer. I have a questions on how to mix with this mixer. I recently had a Numark dm950, which was very very basic and crap, so i got the behringer vmx3000 as an upgrade.

I can beatmatch pretty well, it's just the mixing from one track to the other that i can't do. It doesn't sound smooth enough for me imo.

Ok, so each channel has the high mid and low sound levels. What i usually do is say if channel 3 is playing (right deck) and i want to mix to channel 2 (left deck), i will have all the high mid and low turned off on channel 2. I will gradually slide the cross fader over to the left, and whilst doing so, turning on the low mid and high sound levels. Then when the crossfader is in the middle, and i gradually start to turn the channel 3 levels off and start sliding it to the left. Is that the correct way to do this? It just seems channel 2 isn't loud enough when the cross fader is in the middle. But all the levels on both channels are the same.

Thanks, Chris.

keep your crossfader in the middle and just use your up faders as it gives you more control over your EQs.

I beatmatch off my hi/mids and keep my bass knob really low and sometimes i'll either cut it in really fast or slowly bring it up depending on whats going on.

how can you say behringer makes decent DJ mixers? :-/

even that numark you mentioned is muuuuuuuuuuch better

To be fair though, i have noticed a drop in sound quality compared to the numark dm950.

People slate the VMX300.

I brought one of these about 4 years ago, and although I now own a DJM800 and the VMX has been taken to France it still works as well as it did when I brought it.

Make no mistake, it is a cheap mixer, but it provides a level of function that's adequate for any beginner, or even just someone on a tight budget.

So long as it doesn't go wrong on you, and there's nothing to suggest that it won't - unfortunately they do have a poor track record, then you'll be fine.

So far as finding it different from your last mixer, it's just a case of messing around with it until you're used to it.

mine crapped after a month of frequent use...and I am really careful about my gear...

then the 700 or what was that one called (same VMX line) was at this club I used to have residency at, and it was terrible...noise and cue channels bleeding into each other and such crap :(

don't know maybe bad luck...but they were freaky :-S

I'd be inclined to ask some serious questions about a club that's only willing to spend that much on it's mixer!!

well it was a temporary solution that was left there for too much time...and it was more like a bar at first...then changed into a kind of club with regular parties and such...
