Prodigy FX DJ System?

So I've been spending some time online lately trying to find a good basic DJ setup. Which is also under 1000$ :D
I've had ppl tell me the same thing over and over again.. 2xCDJ100's + some cheap mixer.
And then I ran into this thing.. :eyes:
http://www.prodigyfx.com
Feature wise.. it's as good as a pair of CDJ1000 + DJM 400 mixer.
But also comes with it's own custom case and is more portable.. and a lot cheaper. So what's the deal? Anyone tried it?
All i've found on the net were praises for it and yet I still see ppl pushing the same old pioneer combos..
Don't get me wrong.. I know pioneers are good, but if you have a product that can do the same things for half the price and has good build quality, why do ppl still go exclusively for the "standard" gear?
I'm just trying to understand this as I'm new to DJ gear (not so much to dj-ing itself). And I keep seeing ppl all over the world saying the same things: "pioneer is the industry standard! it's the best!"
The way i see it, it may be best as far as popularity and built quality are concerned, but it's also very expensive.. and I'd much rather play on this than a pair of CDJ100's + some behriger mixer, which is what i'd be able to afford for the same price.
Can't stuff like this do the job just as good? Or am I missing something?

pioneer is a name you can trust. i don't know anything about this product, but many times manufacturers will add a ton of features just to make it more appealing, this does not mean that it is better in any way. it could end up sounding like utter .

another thing to keep in mind: if one part goes out on that, then the whole thing is pretty much useless.

if your budget is $1000, you can get a decent set up. do NOT go for a cheap mixer, even if it is your first set up. i made the mistake of going that route and getting a behringer mixer and within 3 months of owning it i bought a djm 400.

That's just it.. nobody knows anything about it as almost no one owns one yet. AFAIK this is their first product of this type and was supposetly a big hit at NAMM 2007. I did quite a bit of digging and found a 30 min demo of it in action. looks great. As far as sound quality is concerned, I can't vouch for that as I couldn't tell from the lo-fi video clip. the thing i love most about this thing is it's flexibility and features. I love using effects (in moderation, ofc) and this thing has 4 simoultaneous effects with beat sync... i dunno.. just feels wrong leaving it for a ultra super high quality CDJ100 (maybe 200's) with very few (or no) posibilities for sound mangling. :toothless
But I guess you're right.. I'm not getting one untill I'm sure it's actally any good. Anyone own one? or tried one? :)

dont get cdj100's. get the 200's. if you can't afford the 200's, save up until you can. getting 100's would be a big mistake you'd regret.

i reccomend cdj200's and the numark dxm06 mixer. that would be less than 1,000 and you could buy a decent pair of headphones with the leftover money.
jupiterone
Should of added midi support for the mixer

Thanks but.. other than the fact I don't own an ipod, I'd rather stick to CD's..

One thing I forgot to mention:
CDJ1000 price - 1600$
CDJ100 (used) price - 500$
AA CDI500MP3 price - 900$

these are the local prices here.
What I can get for 1000$ here is:
2x (new) stanton C303 ~ 900$ and have 100$ left for the mixer (??)
2x used CDJ100 + my good old behriger UB1002 mixer (EQ? Xfader?..nope)
Mmanu

Not sure how much cheaper it's gonna be shipped overseas. But I'll give it a shot.

Re-read the description of the Cortex. IT can work off just about any device....a Hard Drive, Flash Drive, mp3 player, or external CD players.

And, with the money you will save on a $1000 budget, you will be able to buy an iPod.
