hi all
im using mixmesiter at the moment, i know before somebody says it, im in the process of saving for albleton, so will have it soon, in htte meantime, but i know there is a a few people on here familiar with mixmeister
am i correct in saying that when you import a song into mixmiester it automatically changes the bpm to the bpm set without changing the key of the track
if so is the following possible
i want to alter a bunch of keys on my tracks, if i alter the key on its own it sounds rubbish but if a alter in in turntable style it sounds good and the key is changed, can i now save this track as another file, reimport it and the key and bpm is different but when i put it in the mix the bpm will change but the key wn't as i asked in question above
this way the songs will be harmonically compatably (as long as i change them too) without sounding rubbish |

| Yea, I'm not too sure what the question is either, and I'm not sure how you can change the key without the song sounding off. |

I think he means that when you pitch a track up or down (speed up/slow down), the key is altered as well (on a TT).
In ableton, yes it's fully capable of changing the pitch without affecting the key. There are even several different algorithms you can choose from to do this.
This is akin to the "key lock" or "master tempo" feature on CDJ's, Serato, Traktor, etc.
Pitching a track up or down on a TT does change the key a BIT, but you have to make really really big pitch changes for it to make a huge difference.
If you want to permanently alter the key of an entire track by semi-tones, yes it'll sound like poo. Big time. Don't do it.
Harmonic mixing is a tool, not a rule (hey that rhymes!). You can mix two tracks that aren't in compatible keys and it can sound totally fine.
Use harmonics as a guide, but in the end:
Use your ears.

I pitch up and down by up to two semitones and it sounds fine in Ableton. |

thanks guys
yeah in mixmeister you can move the key in semitones up or down and it sounds funny, but you can click turntable mode and it sounds fine, i tested this last night and he mixes sounded perfect and the key was changed and the bpm was in in sync with the master
thanks guys |

Unless you do it with Waves Soundshifter, in which case it'll sound perfect... but it does cost about 500 quid. |
