Purpose of an EP

I once heard in here before, someone I don't remember who said something alond the lines of most artists don't have the clue about the purpose of an EP and can never execute it well. What is the purpose? alsoI have a pretty clear idea of singles, one track focus generally directed to the dance floor, but would anyone like to share what they think?

I'm too tired and morose to properly articulate my thoughts at this time, but surely an EP is a release that's too 'significant' to be a single but is still some way off being a full album? I can't imagine that there are any set guidelines.

me neither, I don't understand why someone would say that:conf:
Final Call
It basically stands for ''Extended Play'' so usually it'll consist of just two tracks. Usually the original track and a couple remixes i suppose.

I know what it stands for it's just that someone insinuated as if there was something in particular a producer should focus on when producing an EP.

Probably talking out their ing ass. Unless they're talking about the flow of the songs into one another on the EP, but other than that tell them to bend over so you can give them a good reaming.
