Yeah, let's have a bitchfest about Nexus! Nobody's ever done that. It sucks, it's a rompler and romplers suck, you'll sound like everybody else and it sucks, Tiesto uses Nexus and he sucks....blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah...
....and then let's do it all again next week, shall we?
In Vanguard news, here is Mike's (reFX) most recent response regarding Vanguard 2 over on the reFX forums:
| quote: | | Sadly it's taking way longer than expected (as always). We're currently finalizing the alpha (still no GUI). Release is planned for summer. |

I thought the quote was going to be :-
'Yes, Vanguard 2 WILL also be a r0Mpl3R' ;) |

I have to admit that this statement make a lot of sense - agree.
Use what you need to use to feel comfortable in creating your music.
You mind should be the limit not your program - if this is the case than you are all right. This is only IMO.

Creativity isn't anchored soley to the amount of parameters a synth has, in fact, creativity is an infinite representation of the mind upon whatever tool is used to explore it.
If you use Nexus, creativity is being limited by your mind, not the synth, so stop blaming the synth because it doesn't have enough parameters thats preposterous.

Remember, creativity is determined by the mind not the number of knobs you can twist. Thats def called scarcity thinking, "I can't be creative because I don't have 5000 parameters", how about "I can't be creative because I'm not creative". Sounds a lot more accurate to me. |
Your creativity seems only to be hindered by the amount of time you put into this forum :conf: |

I take it most of this was aimed at my post? If not, I apologise now.
I think what you say is true to a point. But I fail to see why more opportunity for sound generation & modulation can in anyway not allow for more creativity.
If what you said was absolutely true we wouldn't need any synths beyond an old school one Osc monophonic synth because our innate creativity would do the work for us.
To bring us back on track, anyone can sound like anyone else if they just use presets, as Nexus is a Rompler/synth I believe it is more limited in it's potential for original sound creation than a pure synth used to create your own patches.
Just my opinion, play nice

Really, you don't need anything more than this. This music started with a couple of guys and a 303, a 808/909 and crappy Radio Shack mixer. That's ALL it was back in the Chicago/Detroit days. Check out some of the stuff that came out on labels like Trax or DJAX Upbeats. A beat and an acid line was all you needed to move the dance floor.
Modern production standards may have changed over the years, but the need to do more with less is what is at the heart of this music. Always has been. |

| honestly don't understand how anyone could find Nexus useful. I'm actually surprised that so many of you publicly admit to using it. If you use Nexus, you are a hack or extremely lazy. |

Yeah, and thats great, but if you wan't more tonal colours for your palette, then you need better synths. I think people want to hear more than just straight acid house these days, a whole set of it would probably make me run screaming. Even in those days, acid house was usually played with a bit of other stuff thrown in like old disco edits and stuff. |

The point I was addressing was that people can and do make creative music with just 1 oscillator monophonic synthesizers. Korg Polysix is one example of a one oscillator synth that has a very wide palate.
And while the acid house type stuff may not be your cup of tea, there is plenty of that type of stuff going on in other genres that's rocking clubs all over the world. |

No no, the old acid house stuff is precisely my cup of tea. But I still hold that theres no excuse for releasing poorly featured synths in this day and age, and I still maintain that they are limiting to creativity, and useful only for new producers who feel threatened by a real synth.
What I was saying was that no producer is going to want to spend all day every day making acid house. Its nice to have some variety. And for that you need versatile synths. |
