You quoted the guy saying that most people won't know if it is a wav or mp3 and said You are wrong.
Check a few posts up. |

Can you tell keys by just listening to stuff? Yes you can... you might not recognize their exact names by heart or do it conciously but that doesn't mean you can't. The only difference that training does it lets you do it conciously... doesn't make much difference to the listening experience similar to whether your trained to know keys or not(although the concious thought of... "this ty dj is playing 320 or this ty dj is doesn't know keys" could intrude on things.
Sure I used to not be able to tell the difference on a test... but they certainly still sounded better and I had a better time listening to them.
Yes I'm aware that wav can be pirated... but buy the bloody cd(or dl)! |

| MP3s are the norm in the DJ world if you're actually playing gigs. |

Why... hdds aren't much?
If a 320gb hdd costs 80 bucks... and cds cost 15 (probably more like 20). Then thats 500 or so cds a HDD... that adds like maybe a cent to the cost of a cd? Why is there a need to reduce that to a third? Isn't playing even 320s being cheap? |

| I don't have those answers. I just know what everyone is using and it isn't WAVs. |

I'm sorry but I don't think that the majority of clubbers out there are going to be able to tell the difference between a 320 Kbps mp3 and a WAV played over a club sound system. |

I said MOST people cant tell the difference not everyones ears in a club are going to be musically trained I cant justify paying the extra money for a wav when 90% of people cant tell the difference anyway. |

I would say 99% of DJs I know who play out using some computer based DJing use mp3s. It's not cheap, it's the way it is!
I would also say that 99% of club goers will NOT be able to tell the difference between 320 and WAV because of the high volume and distortion. |

.wavs are still cost-prohibitive for starting/new DJs. The higher price of the download, plus the cost of extra storage space is putting people off from using the format...
Why do the big-jocks stick with MP3s? IDK :conf: |

Well either way, I'm looking to do this just for fun and just as a hobby. I'm not looking to close out pacha but I wouldn't mind at my prime working some of the smaller clubs. I prefer a small crowd anyway. If for some reason I have so much talent that I HAVE to work the bigger clubs, well I'll deal with it when I get to that bridge, but I doubt that'd be the case.
I'm not really looking to spend much right now, I'm just looking to get the basics down. Maybe in the summer I'll start putting some money down. I suppose a decent setup thats enough to start on and to get me into the more experienced stuff. |

| Where does it say that a 320 MP3 always sounds great? Anyone can encode an MP3 at 320 but that doesn't mean squat if the source is garbage. Buy your music properly. |
