I've been contemplating adding one of these to my hardware synth collection if/when Waldorf ever catches up on orders. In the meantime, I'm wondering if anybody here has gotten their dirty little paws on one and what your thoughts are. Specifically, I'd like to know how you think it compares/contrasts with the other VA synths that I already own:
Access Virus Polar TI
Nord Rack 2X
Novation Supernova I
I'll likely be ordering one without having ever seen it in person, so any info would be much appreciated. |

I've found one source indicating that they started shipping in December, but ran out of supply immediately. Sweetwater and audiomidi.com here in the States are showing a street price of only $699! Apparently, Sweetwater has filled some of the pre-orders, but are back-ordered again.

My understanding is that they have hit the streets; I think some of the peeps on the Waldorf mailing list have them already.
One of my local retailers claims to have them in stock; may be going down there in the next few days to check out a mixer and the Blofeld; will report back I guess; even though I have bugger all interest in getting one, already got a Q and XT. |

My understanding was, that it is basically the microQ repackaged; with the ability to import custom wavetables (ala microWave/XT), but with nowhere near the microWave/XT's abilities in that regard.
Could be wrong though. |

i dont really know much about them, but what i heard is that the microq/q had 5 oscs, whereas the blofeld has 3. the microq had "32 wavetables", whereas the blofeld has 64, like the microwave.
i dont even know how a wavetable works, so hopefully that makes sense to one of you. :stongue: |

Its really hard to explain, but wavetables are like an oscillator, thats the best way to imagine them. But where an oscillator has a single sound, a wavetable has single cycles of 2 or more sounds which can be swept, which makes them really good for moving sounds, as you can sweep from a sine wave to a saw wave, or something stranger. |
