The current generation of consoles are much more designed for being part of home theatre.
Doubt people would buy a standalone bluray player as their dvd upgrade. (Or xbox 360 users with the hd addon buying a seperate hd dvd player... although actually in the US, entry level standalone HDDVD players start under $200 which is an alternative to getting the hd addon).

And back to bluray, currently the ps3 is the only decent bluray player.

that's right i forgot sunrise, an internet article that you get your information from is legitimate as opposed to one that i get information from.. :-)

Oh wow, I didn't know that.
And Warner Bros aren't liars either. Even though just a few weeks ago they said they're not changing to one format... and then initally when the bluray announcement was made, they denied to comment on the whole paid by BDA thing up until now.

Paramount also deny to have taken money from the HD DVD group. hah, yeah right.

Come to reality, money talks.

(There's also the incentive of being able to screw their competitors over who are HD DVD only.)

Who cares? We've already got combo drives so you know how much you should give a ? You shouldn't. All you need to do is wait for the price to drop.

2) they paid out a load of money (such as in the case of warner bros, reportedly $500 million..)

I did say reportedly as I don't think that can be taken as the full truth either. But to think warner switched for less than anything substantial, let alone for nothing is a joke. Even the HD DVD group admit they attempted to bid for it.

They'll probably both be surpassed with high def movies being sold on the internet.(As in, you download it). This has already begun.

im not saying wii is , just that i think ps3 and xbox will outsell it in the long run

as for your crappy war look at the facts that have been presented so far

capacity is negligible, both formats will find a way to match each other

region coding only matters to lickers like pkc who cant be ed waiting for the players that will do away with it.

hd dvd allows one backup, yay how fkn useful...im guessing you want backup capabilites so you can pirate , in which case HD DVD and blu-ray have already been cracked...

blu-ray has a faster read rate and can fit more on the same size disc (+1 blu-ray)

hd dvd might be better quality atm, but if it's only because of the people putting the content together then all it requires is for someone using blu-ray to take advantage of its capabilities, so that doesn't technically make hd dvd better than blu-ray

hd dvd is cheaper (+1 hd dvd)

hd dvd might be cheaper atm but as we all know technology only gets cheaper, so blu-ray will come down in price, plus more and more movies are blu-ray only so you're gunna have to buy some kind of converter. which cancels it out, but like you said blu-ray specs aren't finished yet and players might need to be replaced so i'll give it that point...

so unless you can produce something that makes hd dvd technically better, other than the fact that your arch nemesis sony arent making it, like maybe blu-ray crashes everytime begic sticks his in the slot, they're both equally as good as the other and you're mindless backing of HD DVD is pointless coz they both do the same thing

Probably, except it will take Australia about 400 years before the internet is fast enough and there's unlimited bandwidth so we're screwed.

yup.. dlc would only work for people who are like 1km away from their dsl2+ exchange, particularly for hi def content

i know sony are using divx for dlc soon which would squash one movie down to say 4-8gb for hi def which is a pretty smart move but like fledz said, its light years away. and what fledz says must be the truth

well not really in this case. you said ps3 is moving ahead of xbox 360 and wii in sales. you then posted an article which had a number of sales for ps3 over holidays, but that number is not compared to anything, sales numbers of xbox 360 and wii aren't mentioned, and the article also says that xbox 360 and wii have still sold more than ps3 overall. if the article had numbers for the other consoles and the ps3 had more in the same period then fine. i think i get away with not being stupid this time

I prefer HD DVD but I can promise you Blu Ray has won the war. New Line and another (forgotten the name) have just announced they will also be going BR only to.

I dont think many people realise just how big a deal Warner leaving actually is. The studio's (ie paramount) know the average consumer will now go straight to blur ray given that 70% of titles are on it. I really dont think it will be long before they jump ship to.

We just got the hd-xe1 about 2 weeks ago to so i hate having to write this but sadly me thinks this is the end for HD DVD.

while internet isn't for the most part here fast enough to stream it, it is fast enough to download it overnight. and there's atleast a few decent isp's out there to download a couple of hd movies / month.

and divx? lol, that died years ago. they dont use that. h264 based pwnz it (the x264 implementation is by far best for us peasants), and is supported (along with vc1 - a ms codec! :O) by both BR/HD DVD.
x264 is what the scene uses for all their br/hd dvd rips. 4-8gb depending on length of movie :).
