Help a newbie with choosing gear! :)

Hiya all!! :)
Okay i am a total rookie and newbie when it comes to produce your own music/songs. Erhm well i acually did some stuff many many years ago with a program called "Ejay" (yeah know a bit rofl) but i am seeking guidance here on what type of gear to buy to start my journey! :)
I am thinking of getting myself a Imac for producing everything on, (imac beacuse it is a matter of space question here and a imac would fit in very well with my current setup in mixing that is 2x Pioneer CDJ-800 MK2 and the DJM-400 mixer.)
Then i have heard something about MIDIkeyboard hu? , and then some kind of software on my Imac to get everything in place?, and then a software that lets me make my own baselines, effects etc hu?
Any input/guidance is greatly appreciated!! , (yes i have read the tuitorial threads but i didnt make me much wiser :(

grab any sequencer that runs on a mac and start exploring.
it will look much, much more complicated that ejay (LOL at that again) so you're gonna have to be patient and willing to learn. some reading about synthesis and eq would be helpful.

| i saw this thread as an opportunity to ask a quick question. if (Big if) i were to get into producing, would i be better off with a mac laptop or desktop? |

I would start with "Home Recording for Dummies" book. It was the first book I read and will really help get everything started. Really easy read and answers some of the questions you asked, and others I'm sure to come.

Only you can answer this. 'Production' can range from a kid sitting on a bus making beats on FLS to a full-featured DAW that is the brain center of a hardware-based studio. Generally speaking, you'll get more processing power and easier expandability for less money by buying a desktop, but you sacrifice the mobility and convenience of having a laptop. Also, mixing on a laptop can be problematic, since the onboard speakers are not good references for serious production work, and mixing with headphones is not recommended, especially for a beginner. So, just be aware that either way, you're going to want to get a decent soundcard and monitors. Good luck! |

| ^^^ thanks. i have been back and forth in my head between a mac book pro and a desktop. i want the book but i thilnk ill be better off with a desktop. |

I am thinking of buying the program "Logic" with my imac to start exploring, cause iv read on other places it is kind of easy to get started with, yet has the depth to do really nice things hu? :conf: |
