I've always maintained that the easiest way to become rich is to intelligently play Pick 3 lottery.
Not joking. |

I would get bored with that. The only thing I don't understand about myself is that I'm so self-centred, yet I have such a strong desire to help/serve others. |
Because by serving others, you get satisfaction... so your brain tells you to continue the rewarding behavior. |

Well duh. But the contradiction lies in that I find satisfaction from it, when I'm actually quite self-centered. You'd think I'd NOT choose a life dedicated to the wellness of others.
Or perhaps I'm really not as self-centered as I think? Ah who cares. |

| Or maybe your concept of self includes other people, so that when you're helping others, you are also helping your self. |

You like to massage your own ego by knowing you have the power to help others, or something twisted like that, that you aren't even aware of.
No one is altruistic. |

Well... but if you find it rewarding.. then maybe you're not helping others to help others, but just to make yourself feel good; which in turn could be viewed as self-serving. (even though others are helped as a side effect.) |

This is the kind of reasoning I find ridiculous.
"Helping others makes you feel good, therefore when you help them you're being selfish."
People who argue this simply define any pursuit of pleasure, whether it involves helping other people or hurting other people, as selfish. It's a silly and tautologous argument. |

Its the only way that she could like helping others and still be selfish. Unless she's really not selfish and just considers herself to be; in which case thats an entirely different issue. |

| Selfish and self centered are not the same thing. When I think of selfish I think of a greedy, un-generous person. A self centered person, like myself, puts their needs ahead of others. |
