A seemingly-random attack on a TTC rider left witnesses stunned and a woman battered and in shock Tuesday afternoon.
The alleged assault happened on the King St. 504 car at Yonge Street just before 3pm when two male youths reportedly tried to mug her in front of dozens of onlookers.
"What I thought was initially two guys was a guy punching a girl," one witness recalled.
"She defended herself, and then one of them started punching her pretty hard," added another. "I tried to hold him back and this gentleman here tried to hold the other guy and they got away."
The victim was reportedly trying to board the streetcar when the two suspects first approached. Witnesses say when they tried to step in and help they were threatened and told they'd be shot.
"They were claiming that they had guns and they were going to shoot people," a shaken onlooker added. "I'm pretty upset ... it was very disturbing, just because nobody would do anything."
The victim suffered only minor injuries but there was no immediate word on possible arrests.

yeah, big men...ing pussies. these thugs were lucky that there weren't bolder passengers on board who wouldn't have hesitated to intervene.
I can't blame anyone for being concerned for their own safety when the threat of being shot arose and I am quite familiar with the psychology behind the group mentality of 'do nothing' in these type of situations...but it's still sad and disturbing that "dozens of onlookers" did pretty much jack to help this woman or to hold the ******s for police. |

No. Gang initiation usually involves "blood in, blood out" meaning that they have to be jumped in by their own members. They usually wouldnt be initiated by an act against a random pedestrian.
If this WAS gang related it sounds more like a member trying to move up in the ranks. Already-initiated members can only move up based on the acts that they carry out (ie: you are going to move up faster if you kill a rival gang member than you are a robbery......but its kinda like a points system....you are still going to get "points" for robbery/assault, but you wont get as many if you do something major like murder.) Kinda like proving your self for a higher status. |
