The Fig Newton is a brand of fig bar, a soft, cake-like pastry filled with fig jam.
The Fig Newton was created in 1891 by Charles M. Roser of the Kennedy Biscuit Company, a Massachusetts-based bakery. The company named many of their products after surrounding communities. The Fig Newton was named after nearby Newton, Massachusetts. It was first called simply the Newton, but in 1898 the name was changed to Fig Newton. |

Yes guy, buying some after work now!
You instantly made me crave them when I saw that package image!
Gonna save them for when I'm watching tennis later tonight! Perfect. |

I suppose all the Yankee ingenuity went into the atom bomb the previous year and this was the best they could come up with? |

Just goes to show you what happens when you put all your eggs in one basket.
Prestigious awards like "invention of the year" get passed over. |

you know what? -- i went out and bought some that night...
on the package it said "great new taste" or something. . .
and when i popped the first one in my mouth I was reasonably DISGUSTED with this new "taste"
its a far, far cry from the original taste i know and still love.
Sadly, this was a huge disappointment for me. :(
Gone for me are the days of delicious fig newtons. Alas. . . |
