Recommendations to getting a different job

| OK so I hate my job it pretty much is the worst thing, and I'm about ready to sell my car and live on the streets rather than have to go to my crap job. I've been trying for months to find a job from hotjobs, craigslist, careerbuilder, monster... anyone have any out of the ordinary recommendations? I'm getting pretty desperate here! |

Anything they put me to work at, but my experience lies in those fields mentioned above.

Well really I'd love to find a junior-level compliance analyst or legal-related position that could carry me through law school and beyond when I get my JD. Right now I'll take basically whatever I can get, just to get me into manhattan. I live in queens and commute out to long island every day, and waking up at 5:45am 5 days a week kills my social life and puts me in a very foul mood on a daily basis! |

start at the www.nalp.org website (its for Legal stuff). Find headhunters in the city that deal with IT and Legal and you make them do the work for you. Right now is the best time to look because as the year goes on its gonna get harder and harder. Also if you are Law School you need to talk to your school because depending on what year you are in you should be looking into Internships as well (which will pay you a butt load of money)

Word, I hate my job too. My company micromanages its employees to the point of suffocation. Employees of all types seem to be quitting every week. Just today one of the usually happy go lucky receptionists (asian FOB) stopped by my office and said in almost a whisper, "I just wanna burn this place. Burn it down and kill everyone inside." .. . . (o_o)! I'd probably be a bit nervous if I didn't know the guy outside of work lol.
They fired the last person who gave 2 weeks notice so I'm going just going AWOL next Friday. No clue what I'm gonna do for work either, but whatever.. I'm wrapping up school and studying for the LSAT this semester anyway so I can't work a 9-5 anyway. Glad to be rid of the 9-5 life, even if only for a few months.
Have you tried Monster yet? I started getting calls within 2 or 3 days of putting my resume up there back when I was looking to leave this place for another full time position. Good luck with your search.. |

hmm congrats on making the decision to go AWOL (of course im assuming that you dont need them as a reference, unless u mean giving ur two weeks then just not coming back). I once got soo sick of my boss and my job last year that I just left for a 3 day trip to San Diego for my bday without saying a WORD...and never came back. it was very empowering. lol |

Hahaha! Dayum.. I actually would've preferred to give them notice at least a month in advance. I wouldn't LIKE to go AWOL, but they literally fired the last person who gave two weeks notice ON the day he gave two weeks notice, wtf!?? I couldn't stay regardless b/c of school but I would've preferred to give them notice (even as much as I can't stand this place), but they've created a work environment that unfortunately warrants going AWOL. I definitely won't be the first one. We literally loose and acquire new employees every week. (x_x) |

| About law school.....seriously consider what you're getting into. take lightly those starting salaries schools post. with the exception of the NYUs, Columbias, Harvards, Yales, etc..., its not easy getting those jobs. In fact, it's hard, really hard. You have to get in the top 10-15% of your class, and these kids are all real smart also. On top of that, law schools put a ton of weight on your undergrad GPA (and the schools reputation) and your LSAT score. If you don't get above 165 on your LSAT your chances of landing one of those $160,000 a year jobs is small....mostly because you will need to be in the top 10% of your class. If you just really want to be a lawyer, that may not be as relevant for you, but you should still think hard because it's a huge investment and a HUGE opportunity cost. THink 40,000 in tuition and 40,000 in lost salary, for 3 years. That's $240,000 in cost in 3 years, which doesn't include the increase pay raises. All that for perhaps a modest yearly bump in salary to $60,000 |
