, i bought a 320gb western digital to backup 3 of my older IDE drives, to move them over to my new system. I left a folder to copy over as i went for dinner, i came back and the drive was off. No power...
Waiting to put my new system together saturday night, connect the 320 drive via sata as an internal drive, copy its contents to a 500 gig external, pull the 320, move the contents of the 500gb external to my new 500 gb internal western digital RE2 and then return both external drives to costco.
ING EXTRA UNNECESSARY STEPS    |

Warning, Warning Denny!

back up your data on DVD (ISO Mode) before you move all your files,
I installed my 300 GB WD Book, and after 6 months it decided to crap out on me,
luckily, backed up all my before moving on to something new! :) |

ooo good idea. backing up on DVD is key.
i might go and buy another external HD and just back it up on there once a month. they're cheap and if i keep it safe it should be fine. |

is that by any chance a 320GB western digital my book essential edition?
if so, it is the same one that crapped out on me too. on mine It was a power supply problem, not the power cable or transformer, but the board that it plugs into, the drive isn't getting any power, the drive itself should be fine and unless it crapped out in the middle of a file transfer, your files should be safe as well.
its a shame, cause its actually not a bad sata 2 drive inside there. which also pisses me off about western digital. they put the same drive in two different external hard drives, but one has basic usb connection, and the other has usb, firewire, and e-sata, but costs a hell of a premium.
still, they make great drives, i love my raptor 150 :) |
