The beginning is a bit slow for me, the minimal elements tingle my senses which is always great but that one main sound within those first 5 minutes is outdated for me, the prog one. All that quickly changes however with the succinct gas leak that comes at around 5:45 and introduces a wonderful minimal track which is just a joy to listen to from start to transition. Speaking of, around the 9th minute a sinister sound is introduced that puts a smile on my face and is followed by tickity-insectal touch-ups that transform my smile into a grin as the darkness begins to creep in. I'm loving it. By the 11th minute it's obvious that this is not your typical set because there already seems to be a transition happening, and the blending of tracks is truly sublime.
By 12:13 I recognize the track immediately as it is a track I've heard many a time been spun by the up-and-coming Hakim Guelmi. It's a great track that shows how fresh prog should sound like, sizzling with groovyness, fluid sounds that remind one of that delicious tone of freshly opened champagne being poured. The main melody and distorted vocals that sound to me like he's saying 'Ghetto warehouse' is a beaut for dancing. Gotta love those bells that punctuate the track at different moments. Momentum shifts again and we're reminded that what we're listening to is primarily a dark set. The track at 12 was a bit jovial but this one that comes at full gear around 18 is eerie and twisted. The dominant element so far seems to be minimal, but it's minimal that tells two stories: the baseline in the back tells one and the stick-clicks in the foreground tell the other, i only wish i had a good soundsystem at home to enjoy that affect fully.
21:33 and the machinery is grinding, creeping closer, This moment really brings me back to your 6 hour mayhems Martin, as the sounds create such a distinctly Creatoresqe atmosphere. A great track that I think opens the curtains fully to the show we're about to experience.
Uffff, the 27 minute baseline glider brings back sounds of the kind of prog I used to listen to ala Satoshi Tomeii, makes me really want to hit the dancefloor. I love how the minimalism is still intact. But the set is definately picking up speed here and it's becoming a little disheartening to listen to this at home on a subpar sound system!
Yeah those piercing vocals followed by the highs really don't want to let you go. The wolloping in-your-face sound at the 35 minute mark is just a continuation of a monster set on the rise, emphasizing what the set has been building up to, that is: THIS IS NOT MEANT FOR HOME-LISTENING and emphasizing it in a BiG way, great stuff and the echoing guitar-like tinges are the result of the evolutionary progress of the Minimal Animal of this set.
With a much needed break for breath around 41, the labyrinth starts to spin and finally unleashes a slow-starter with tech-minimalism. The low beats at 44 make me close my eyes are remember the past at Aria , really brings back memories of great experiences. This. is. evil. and i love every second of it. The vocals are a put-off however coz they interrupt the trip but they're not prominent which is a very good thing and we're getting back to the intensity we felt before around the 35th. And i have to keep re-iterating the minimal aspect of this set, I mean we all know how e.d.m has evolved and how minimal is such a big part of it now and this really showcases one of the greatest utilizations of that sound. But here at around 51 we can call this nothing but the new sound of techno with a dash of robotics thrown in for good measure.
52:42 we're gifted with another needed breather and the new transition with snares, smacks and windy baselines keeps the uniqueness and promises more energy. Aaaaaaarh it's THAT sound, the one that comes at around 55. Unfortunately, just like the very beginning of this set, that sound seems a bit outdated in my opinion, the whole track brings the momentum and intensity level down and if it wasn't for the very groovy baseline in the background I would be skipping it over. The vocals are cool at first but are in there way too long. The baseline saves this one.
I love the isolated ting for the tracks that comes at around 1:01, the curtains are starting to close but they're closing in style and the clapping has great rhythm and that element of playfulness we didn't get much of from the whole set (apart from 12 minute track). But there seems to be an ace up Creator's sleeve because 1:04 sounds like the party is far from over, riding baseline blending with the last track promises more dancing. Distorted vocals are the best vocals and when they're accompanied by such a powerful finale to this set, they can only mean good things. This is a great way to finish the set, as it has been recorded and mixed primarily as if it's in a club and not in a room. The high-hats, the rock-influenced jabs, the distorted vocals, and all the hard minimal elements that keep this track going are a truly wonderful way to finish this set off. Well done.
Bottom line: I've been asking for a Creator set like this and I finally got it, except for a few tracks that didn't blend all to well with me this mix and track selection is excellent. The minimal aspect that is through-out your whole set and the techno that comes and goes at perfect times proves to me that you can hold your own and keep up with the changing scene.
The beginning sounded like your typical Creator home-mix that's a joy for the ears, but between the 25 and 50 minute marks is an intense fury that can really only be fully appreciated when on the dancefloor and with the crowd. At home, you can only imagine what it's like but that's enough for you to love it. My ty speakers might have influenced this review, I don't know to what affect, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it and I can agree with others who say this is your best mix yet.
My final thought is the natural one I think you get after listening to this: I can't wait to hear Creator live again.
Great Job Martin. |

Damn, I am speechless... this is an amazingly precise and long review.
What can I say, this sort of analyze proves people really listen and care, there's just no way to put a ty mix out there and get away with it. I really enjoy all the comments, positive as well as negative. So to have my set reviewed that way really makes my day ;-)
Just a joy to have so many edm lovers out there that shares the same passion. |

Thank you Martin, that means a lot. I plan to select a bunch of my reviews from the past and put them together as one file for future purposes, so I love the positive feedback for my reviews as much as you love it for your mixes :D
Sorry for the delay, if you talk to any of my friends right now and ask them what's he doing they'll be like 'Oh , he's watching tennis' haha. It is true, watching tennis has become such a great joy for me that I really forget myself sometimes. :thepirate
Keep up your great work and I'll be looking forward to seeing you spin soon. |

I'm not posting to "bump" this topic but rather to say one last time how much I appreciate your support on TA, and how overwhelmed I am by the number of downloads within a week and all the great reviews.
I am truely a very happy and lucky DJ, and I am fortunate to be playing for and be listened by people that really cares about music.
Great nights are coming ahead, hope to see you there. Will let this topic die now ;-) |
