Well then, that's the real problem. If they're 17 and under and they're having unprotected sex, they're dumb. If they're 17 and under and they're raped, they NEED to see a doctor, not just to determine if they're pregnant but, also to get help dealing with a traumatic experience. I imagine the 17 and under policy is to combat those situations and to help educate kids about sex.
As far as 17 and under and having protected sex but still having an accident. I would imagine the idea again is to make sure these kids are making smart choices. I can't decide if I agree with that or not. We'll have to wait until I have kids to see. |
And do you think a "dumb" kid is going to think about telling her mommy or daddy that she thinks she might be pregnant when she is 15 years old? I don't think so.
That is the entire point, they are dumb... and likely scared less. They should be able to buy it at any age. |

I agree that the entire point is that they are dumb. I think that's exactly the reason why they are requiring an Rx for 17 and under.

I think it's about educating those kids that aren't going to seek help (and education) from mom and dad. As opposed to saying "Unprotected sex is no big deal for minors (or "rape is no big deal"), come see us next week if you need some more!"
I'm not defending the requirement one way or the other, I'm just speculating on reasons why they would put that check in place. That's the only logical reason I could think. |

Perhaps making it mandatory to do an ID check, and if the person is under 18, making it a requirement for the pharmacist to do a counseling session with the person (or something) would be a better idea. Putting the age restriction there is not going to help. |

Honestly, that's not very different than requiring a script based on age. The only difference is that a doctor's job is to dispense healthcare advice and a pharmacist's job is to dispense medication based on the doctor's determination. |
