I work for a financial institution. It's funny how much sell volume we received this morning. But what they don't understand is that, with the exception of S&P prefered, most of the stock that they are dumping should actually be purchased right now. This isn't going to last. The only reason there seems to be what those s at CNBC call volatility is because of the enormous gains the market has had in recent times. Be mindful of the fact that with great swings in gains there is the chance of great swings in the wrong direction. However, it's all relative. |

Isn't that pretty much a recession though? That's what the Feds were talking about this morning...woke everyone up here at the Univ., that's for sure.
I need to get today's and tomorrow's paper asap, btw. |

Drastic swings in losses have to outweigh the positive drastic swings. A recession is usually defined by the negative performance for the overall GDP for the nation over consecutive quarters. No one seems to look at what the market has done over the last 6-12 months and watched the significant gains. While retail was hit hard this last shopping season, the overall economic growth was strong enough to manage it. |

Nail on head.
And btw, we live in Texas. We're the one state that won't have a recession. Business may slow, but not like the rest of the country. And if Bush gets his economic stimulus package through, recession will be an afterthought. |

| Dow went up 320 points today. People need to quit watching the news channels and start using some common sense. |
