I've been looking for an apartment for months now, and maybe i need some help...been trying to find a place around $800-900 a month where I can play my music without having the neighbours pounding the walls or calling the cops. I've had lots of problems with this in my last few apartments and i'm sick of it, I dont' want to feel guilty for enjoying music...I've narrowed it down to either:

an apartment above a store - has no neighbours above or below, but still has them beside...

coach house - no direct neighbours but landlord will be 15 feet away

I've looked at a few of these types of places but all have had sketchy landlords or were dumps.

Anyone have any experience in having a place where you can put the knob to 11...or more?

I lived with two guys who liked loud music. At first I thought, "Yay! Loud music!" A few days later, I couldn't take it anymore. They had it blasting 24/7.

Anyway, this place was located at Landsdowne/Bloor. There was never one noise complaint (except by me). That area is too sketchy for the people to really care about loud music, haha.

hey

Have you tried soundproofing your music room by using some sort of insulation?

I've also heard of this device which limits the sound waves in between the walls. I don acquire details though, sorry.

If you lookin for above store apartments I advice you to not to hurry and choose a place that is clean and settleable, but more likely you'd have a next door neighbor who might not like your loud music.

good luck dude.

If you can afford it, lofts are great.

OR.... I know a friend who is a dj who used to live in a warehouse where art classes were taught during the day... he lived above... they appreciated the tunes when they were there, and it didnt bug them when they werent.
