So i'm in the market of getting a new phone, cause my nokia is an old peice of . my contract is up in a month so i've decided to shop around.
I went to the one site that has the phone i want and i proceed to pick out all the features i want and the $25/month plan turns into $65 a month and all i did was add call ID for $2/month.
and at the bottom i noticed this little gem.
| quote: | | 911 Emergency Service Fee $0.50 |
what the hell is this? My gf tells me its on everyones phone, that's incredible.
cause i duno how many of you know this, but a deactivated phone will still call 911 when you need it.

Every single company(bell, fido, rogers, telus) charges system acess fee and 911 service fee.
I work at bell Mobility their system acess fee $8.95 and 911 fee is .75 cents.
System access fee is in places for repairs and upgrading of networks so that the company providing you the service can keep things up an running. |

| I'm damn glad I don't have a cellphone. I've never had one, I've never needed one, but if I start using one I might get too used to it, so I won't. Nothing wrong with being off the grid. Besides, there's plenty of pay phones around to suit my needs in case of emergency. |

I bet you save $500+ a year at the minimum which is nice to know.
I based that on 50/month phone bill which seems avg to me.
When I lost my cell phone I went one week without one. I did not mind using quarter payphones, home phone, and occasionaly borrowing friends cell for a min or two when I was with them. |

the phone company isnt charging you n00b, its the provincial goverment who charges for it. Its the phone companies responsiblity to bill it to you to collect on their behalf.
