I just noticed that too [5000 new release's].
can't be right, considering each genre only has a total of 8 - 15 thoudand songs each.

if theres 5 thousand new release's a day, how can there only be 10,000 total electro house tracks, or 15,000 progressive?
actually, in the last 7 days there has been 152 electro house releases..thats only 21 release per day. thats pretty good.
Trance ave 7 release's per day. |

Bring back vinyl and kill the internet. Only way to safe music.
It's funny that they started doing this now, while people were warning and predicting it years ago.
And beatport is doing this now, what about the other big digital stores?? |

thats not new releases today... new releases are considerd the $2.49 songs.
and these 5760 new releases cover all genres, what DJ do you know plays every single genre that beatport sells?
go to Genres, Progressive House, then go to new releases...
68 new releases... WOO damn thats soooooo much. that will take no more than an hour to preview... and again.. these are the $2.49 releases, not just the releases today |

Just curious, for you DJs on promo lists, how many promos do you get per day? |
That can vary, I tend to get promos directly from labels a lot now. The beauty of it all is that I can download it and listen when I want without it taking up space at home.
Back in the old days I used to have to take vinyl to charity shops, record shops to exchange for other music or just plain throw it away of nobody wanted it.
And trust me, you guys thing that vinyl was a quality control for music. Absolute cobblers if you ask me...
I have had thousands upon thousands of records at home just collecting dust.
If anything the internet and beatport have opened up avenues for the individual DJ to create their own identity a lot more. If you recal, when we were buying vinyl often it was whatever the big guns had been playing for months previously. Also you don't have to fret so much about buying the odd lemon as it hasn't cost you that much.

ah dude, i was just giving you a hard time... wasn't meant to sound cocky just a chuckle!
from my understanding there's just over 1500-2500 new releases added every month. |

OK, 5,000 is all the releases, not just the new ones. I see now that each genre has about 60 releases a day, which is still a lot, but not too bad.

You make some great points. We probably shouldn't look at this as a bad thing. Having more choices is a good thing. In fact, I've totally changed my mind on all this. We all (producers and DJs) should be glad we live in an age where new doors have been open wide. I think the quota thing was all about money, space, and making accounting easier. I don't think it had to do with weeding out subpar music. |
